How long does it typically take to install spark plugs?

I've change many spark plugs in my time for Ford to Hondas. I need to know how long it's going to take me to install new plugs on my 98 LS1. Any tips you guys can give me would be appreciated. Tell me which plug is the hardest, so I can do it first. Any tool out there that will help? I've seen this one socket wrench at PEP BOYS that is pretty neat. Well I need to know, soon...getting NX kit install Friday morning, so if it's a 2 hour job I will do it that day, before I head to the track.

DAM!!! I guess I can forget the track this Friday unless I do 2 a day and start tomorrow!! Oh well I guess it's better that I don't rush to the track anyway. What is the gap I need for a nitrous setup? And what plugs are you guys using for that?

Thats real cute, you only wish your gap was as big as mine. That girl said you had a small gap a really small gap.......... On your spark plugs of course

Took me about 6 hours. The driver side is about a 1 hour job, and the front 2 passenger ones were also quick, but the back 2 took about 3 hours each. Get ready to kill a day, and have band-aids ready. You'll probably have to jack the car up, and get it from underneath for the last one. HUGE PITA.

I made a post back when I changed mine because posts like these almost scared me into taking it somewhere and getting it done. There is no way it should take over two hours.

The drivers side is about a 20-30 minute job. Just take off the AIR tube and pull the wires completely off and all of the plugs are easy to get to. On the passenger side, take off the AIR tube and nothing else. You can get the first three plugs out fairly easy. If your forearms aren't huge you can get the rear passenger plug from the bottom easily. Use a long flathead screwdriver to stick under the plug boot and twist it to pop the boot off. Reach up and put your socket on the plug and then put the wrench in the socket. This plug took about 30 minutes including jacking the car up.

You may want to bend the heat sheild by the cat so it doesn't cut you so bad. Also, some very short extensions or an adapter (one size drive to another) will come in handy when you can't reach w/ no extension, but a two inch extension is too long.

The part about cutting up you hands pretty bad is true BTW. A friend w/ skinny forearms might help too.

One guy on the other Z28 site you can do em all from the top in about 2 hrs. He said the secret to the psngr side was to remove the air tube and the coil packs.

Another guy said to remove the starter and lift the engine - about 20 minutes.

I haven't done it yet, but plan on investigating the possibilities when I replace the clutch and hydraulics since I'll have the starter out.

Is plug access bad on C5 LS1s too, as well as LS1 Fbodies? How is it compared to LT1 plugs?
