How hot is an LS1 supposed to get?
How hot is an LS1 supposed to get?
Hey all,
I bought my 99 TA last week, w/ 38k on the clock. I noticed when it gets to operating temp, it is right at the 210 mark, and stays there. Sometimes it may be at 208. Is this normal? Do these cars have a 195 stat?
My LT1 runs around 178 or so w/ the 160 stat, but even when it had the 195 stat, I don't remember it running at the 200 mark.
Is it normal? Or am I stressing over nothing?
Thanks

The temp gauge is crap. On my car, the stock gauge will give the same reading (about 208) when the engine is really between 175 and 240. You don't really know the true temp unless you get a new gauge or AutoTap (I think).

I have heard from someone on this website that GM put a working temperature gauge in all '98 cars, but the owners were complaining that it was fluctuating too much, so from '99+, they made the needle stay at 210.
Mine does the same thing. When I start it up in the morning, and drive less than a mile, the needle is at 210, and there's no way it got that hot that fast.
