How hard is it to.....

Take the oil pan off of the LS1 eng. if the engine is still in the car? Is it even possible without undoing the motor mounts?

as far as i know you have to undo the motor mounts but why would yuou want to?

I dropped a retainer lock down in the head, and I think it may have gone all the way down into the oil pan!

So at this point it's pull the oil pan or pull the head, maybe both.
