how to get to low 12's?
Re: how to get to low 12's?
Get rid of the Flowdisaster muffler first. A cut-out to bypass it is just as good as an option- if not better.
I vigilante 3200 stall and some nitto tires would be a good start and put you further down the track in less time, but there are other things you could do even before these.
I'd look into getting a GM LS6 intake, exhaust cut-out, and underdrive pulley next. Put those items on and then go race your car and see where you sit.
Good luck,

things you need regardless of route taken:
cutout behind your headers
3200-3600 stall converter
STICKY tires
then you can add
A. you could do heads/cam/dyno tune - $2000-$6000 (this will get you 11's)
B. full intake, tune, underdrive pulley, electric waterpump, take off about 200lbs, gears, shift kit, lightened flexplate - $1500-$2000
C. n20 $600-$1100

I would use a Vigilante Torque Converter stalled to 3000-3200.
A set of Mickey Thomspon ET Street Radials.
I would say a camshaft as well would certainly help you achieve your goals.

Re: how to get to low 12's?
well i decided im gonna end up going with the ls6 intake, stall converter, and a 224 cam. im sure that will probably get me to low 12's with a good tune right? which stall do you guys recommend to get? i only drive the car on the weekends and its not for drag racing or going out to the track.
Re: how to get to low 12's?
i agree with your mods and go with a big stall closer to 4k if it isnt a daily driver.
but if you dont go to the track why are you concerned with a low 12 ET?

How you guys passing Cali emissions with longtube headers?
I would get a good 3200 stall convertor, they make a huge difference. Why not get some ported heads, There are some companies now offering some great prices on them for real cheap. I just saw a heads/cam combo for around 1300 bucks with complete heads that flow around 300 cfm. This would surely get you where you want to go. I would say get a bigger cam, but since your in Cali you should stick to the 224 since this is pretty much the biggest you can get away with, although one company out there says they got a 228/228 cam to pass. You could also try some rhoads lifters, from what the told me you can get away with a cam that is 10 degrees bigger in duration, and they haven't had any knock retard issues. silly gas is by far the cheapest horsepower adder, and for a weekend car, is a perfect match. Some gears will get you faster down the tract, but sticky tires might be dangerous to them since these rears are weak. You could also consider a used supercharger like the powerdyne, its not the greatest but a used one is cheap and will net a good horsepower gain and you won't have to tear into the engine.

Re: how to get to low 12's?
there is no way to pass cali emissions with long tube headers. at the moment i dont care about emissions b/c my smog check is not until 07. but i am deciding to go with a 224 cam. whisper lid, air filter, exhaust, lt headers, ls6 intake, torque converter, 224 cam, and a tune will probably get me to 380rwhp and low 12's. if i want more power ill than go with a set of heads to to go over 400hp.
Re: how to get to low 12's?
Why not 11's? Heads cam, stall, Dr's, headers, and 100-150 shot nos for like a mid to low 11's. Depending on track conditions. The heads/cam, converter, and dr's will get you real low 12's FOR SURE.
