How does this mod list sound? And a few questions...

You guys will have to forive all my questions. I haven't owned an F-Body in quite some time, and I need some help adding a few horses to my Ws6. I want to do some basic mods to start and after reviewing the forum vendor websites, here's what I've come up with so far.
Exhaust ~ SLP Loudmouth (I like it loud and they "claim" 25 hp increase)
Filter ~ I'm kind of undecided between a Whisper Lid with the Cold Air/Ram Air package and the Volant intake. Having a WS6, I'm not even sure if I need the aftermarket ram air package. Your thoughts and opinions on this are GREATLY appreciated! I also like the design look of the Valant intake. But does it work as well as the Whisper lid?
Also, the Granatelli MAF. It's not cheap, but if it's worth an extra 10 horsepower as claimed, I'll bite.

Lastly, could someone enlighten me on a few common terms used by the camaroz28 regulars. What is an electric cutout and an SFC and would they be worth it on a mostly stock Ws6?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Ok.

Exhaust: The LM is a good choice for the money, sounds good, and picks up about as much hp as any other cat-back.

Intake: Get the lid and filter. They're all about the same, and I don't see you really needing the Volant, especially since you have a WS6.

MAF: Granatelli is overpriced and not worth it, IMO. Go with the $130 SLP MAF. 85mm Z06 unit calibrated for our cars, and I've personally seen an 8rwhp increase on a near stock car. Great mod for the money.

Electric cutout: A device that bolts on to a 3" cutout to allow remote opening and closing of it to change exhaust tone and flow within a few seconds. Good for cruising around with and being able to do "sleeper mode" and go to "loud mode". Not to mention just the cutout alone is anywhere between 5-17rwhp on a near stock LS1 when open.

SFC: Sub-frame connectors. Our cars don't have a true frame, they have two subframes. And because of their unibody construction, they have a tendancy to flex under high hp conditions and sharp turns. The SFCs tie the front and rear sub-frames together to make the car have a "true" frame and stiffen up the body. This is one of the first mods I did to my Firebird. After the installtion, you WILL notice a handling improvement. You may also wanna invest in a STB, or shock tower brace. It's a brace that ties the two shock towers under the hood together for front end stability and firmness.

Anything else? BTW, yes I have seen the dyno numbers I've claimed above in person. My buddy owns a dyno 1/2 mile from where I live. Now you know where I spend some of my spare time

Instead of spending money on a MAF, I'd try and find a cheap set of used headers, or an ASP pulley.

Thanks for the advice! Looks like I'll go with the Loudmouth, Lid and Filter, SLP MAF and a pulley. Those together should add what...30 horsepower?

The Loud Mouth is an excellent choice and it should give you better gains in power over other catbacks with mufflers because of its design. It has no muffler so it's basically a restriction-free system from the cats back.

Siggybaby,
Did you notice a gain going from stock to the Loudmouth and Lid? Is this something I'm going to feel?

DON'T get a MAF sensor. It is a waste of money. The stock one is good up to 450hp, and a new can mess up your A/F ratio and you might throw some codes. If you do, you must(suggested) get a programmer like AutoTap, Diablo, Predator, etc... This will aloow you do get the most out of the MAF without messing up your car.

You can't go wrong with Loudmouth. I'm not sure about a pulley. For the Lid, either get a TSP or a Whisper lid, they claim the most power and I would agree, plus they look the best too, IMO. People have had problems with the SLP and Direc-Flo lids.

Oh ya.... And SFC's are a great mod!!! I drove my friends car which has them and his car feels much more solid than mine. I need to get some.

Good luck and have fun!

ASP pulley is a great mod for the price. You will shave a tenth or better, the engine picks up revs quicker and there is less abuse of your accessories. On the dyno the pulley prolly won't show much, but it shines in the real world. BTW, my first two mods (besides the "free mods") were lid and Loudmouth. You will definitely notice a difference in performance.

I'll have to disagree with this statement. Remember, 8rwhp for $130 is a pretty good deal for the money. Plus as I stated earlier, the SLP MAF is calibrated for our cars, so it won't ruin your A/F ratio or throw any codes. I've seen this first hand ranging from bone stock cars, mildly modded cars, to forced induction and nitrous cars. I've also watched the A/F from a stock MAF to the SLP unit on a wideband 02 sensor, it remained pretty constant. And the stock one is good for about 600hp. I'm at 520hp in my car still using the stock one with a screen and stock ends. For any information on a stock unit vs/ handling capabilities, check out Detroit Speedworks. They have proven this.

And not trying to be picky, but this is a new guy here. Autotap is only a scanning program, not a tuning program. You can invest in EFI Live and use it's bi-directional controls to play with A/F and some other things, but only while the car's running. It stores the changes in the PCM in the volatile memory. Once you shut off the car, you lose the programming. I'd recommend LS1 Edit for any major tuning. But for starters on a near stock car, go with the Diablo unit as it can scan and tune all in one.

The Loud Mouth is not annoying to me at all despite what some say. If you want quiet, get a Lexus.

I have to admit, I am a bit concerned about the resonance of the Loudmouth. I had the Loudmouth on my '97 Vette, but I also had long tube headers and a supercharger on that car. It was rediculously loud. I'm thinking that with the rest of the exhaust being stock, it won't be that bad. I found it at New Era Perofrmance for $309.99 which seems to be the best price going.
