How do you disable VATS? (Passkey)
How do you disable VATS? (Passkey)
I own a 1999 Z28 (M6) and recently it started giving me some problems starting. I would have to try to turn the key several times before I would get the thing to crank. After it started the security light would stay on for awhile then eventually turn off. Last weekend the thing wouldn't start for anything so I wound up poping the clutch and driving home with the security light flashing the whole time. So I have 2 questions,
1.) I don't want this system in my car any longer, it's usless (as evidenced by poping the clutch and driving off) and only serves as an inconvinence. I've heard of people just putting a resitor in line with a couple of wires heading to the ignition, would this solve my problem?
2.) Does anyone have any specific details on how to do it? I know it involves finding the resistance of you pellet and so on an so fourth, but has anyone put together a decent site or technique for disabling it?
Any help that you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
Karl

Re: How do you disable VATS? (Passkey)
You'll need a GM parts dealer to "read" the key and give you the ohms range. Get the appropriate resistors from Radio Shack. At the bottom of the column there is a 2 wire connector with small(22ga.?) wires. I think mine were orange(98 Z/28). Use correct resistance to bypass the ignition. Hope this helps.
