how to change lifters
i know you have to pull the heads to swap lifters, and i've read the head swap guide from www.ls1howto.com but they don't describe lifter swap.
if i follow their procedure...were and how do i remove the lifters?
any pics would be great, or maybe just editing some arrows onto their pics.

Re: how to change lifters
I'm probably swapping lifters tomorrow. If you get it back together, drop by and show me
Actually, I've been trying to do some research on it, too.
I was told to soak the new lifters in mineral spirits over night to remove assembly lube, then let them soak in engine oil for another day. If you don't do the latter, they'll be real noisy for the first five minutes until they pump up.
After you pull off the heads, there will be a pair of lifter guides under each head. Each valley contains a lifter guide and four lifters. The guide is held in by a single bolt. Be careful you don't drop the lifter guide bolts, and when you drop the new lifters in make sure they're oriented in the same direction.
I don't necessarily have time to let them soak that long. I'll probably give drop them into the oil before I go to bed and pull them out when I need them.
If you're using non-OEM lifters like Comp R's, I'd do some research on setting the preload, etc. I didn't buy that type and it appears the setup is a little different for them.

Yeah, I knew you were in the Keys...it was tongue in cheek
I've inspected my valvetrain and now I need to decide if I'm going to continue with pulling the heads to change lifters.

Re: how to change lifters
Swapping the lifters is extremely easy...
Once the heads are off... the lifters are right there under the their little retainer cups... Remove the either 8 or 10 mm bolt on the retainer. Once its removed, just pickup the old lifters and install the new ones. Do this until you've swapped them all out..

Re: how to change lifters
yeah i finished my springs. after the first few cylinders i was able to do them pretty quick.
it wasn't so bad. i think my record was one cylinder in 3 mins with my roomates help (holding the spring compressed), and alone i think i did it in about 5 min.
still didn't fix my problem....but at least i'm ready for a cam!!
