How Can I Tell if I am buying a true SS or a car someone has aftermarketed?
I am buying a 2001 Artic White Z28/SS I need to know if there is anyway to tell if it is a true SS or a car someone has put aftermarket parts on. I am buying it out of LasVegas and I don't want to pay a transport fee if it is not a true SS. The VIN is 2G1FP22G712127123. I also see all of these people say they have SS # ?????? what exactly does that mean? Also can anyone tell me if this car is a good deal it has 33154 miles and is an M6. The one thing that makes me wonder if it is a SS though is that it has cloth interior. Thanks for all of the help. Steve
OK, If it has WU8 on the build codes then it is an SS for sure right? So what does it mean like AZWingNut has 2002 Camaro SS #384. Do all SS's have the same options or is there a way to find out what options this one has. I can't see the car because it is across the country from me. Also is 19,999.00 an ok price if it is a true SS.
Thanks
Steve
Thanks
Steve
Since you have the vin# you should be able to take it to a local gm dealer to find out. GM dealers are tied into website called GM
Dealerworld. Under dealerworld there are various links for sales, service, body shop, and etc. Under the service section there is a link called "gmvis" where they can pull up a build sheet for the car. They can also give you a warranty service history on the car. It has other useful information also. The site is designed for internal use but I think a reputable dealer wouldn't mind getting this info for you. Good luck.

My car was #384 of 11,191 SS's produced by SLP in 2002. If the drivers door has WU8 it is an SS. Try and see if there is an SLP sticker on the Passengers side, this will list SLP options such as the 345HP Package. No sticker on the pass. door means a base SS, like mine.

Thanks, that does help. One more question did all of these cars have TTop roof panels. I haven't talked to this guy in a day or 2 but the picture looks like a TTop but it doesn't list in on the options. I can't tell if it may just be painted black.
