Re: How can I reach 12's?

A friend of mine has a 2000 SS that ran a 12.8 with stock radials and just an SLP lid. He has slicks now and runs 12.7s.

I've never dragged my 2000 SS so I dunno what my 1/4 time is.

Well they weren't really slicks, they were ET streets.

Doesn't matter...Even w/ Drag Radials he should pick up about .3-.4 tenths. and even more on ET Steets.

Well considering most street tires are 2.0-2.2 60's...And ET Streets 1.6-1.8, There ya go.

how safe (driving conditions, like in slippery roads) and reliable are drag nitto tires?

that's not true at all. i drive on my nittos in the rain all the time. if you drive normally, they're not bad at all in the wet. (until of course the get REALLY bald, then any tire is dangerous.)

i even drove on my nittos in the snow last year (although THAT was definitely not a fun experience!) but honestly, nittos aren't bad on wet roads, trust me.

Def. agree, I'm just sayin don't use them too much once the miles start racking up on them..My Brand New nittos were actually great in the rain!

If you got the power and the skills to be putting down 1.8 with ET streets ... you've got the power and skills to put down 1.9 on street tires.

And if you have the power and skills to be putting down 1.6s on ET streets, you know better than to ever try and launch that set up on street tires.

Reality ... ET streets might make up a tenth in your 60' and you'll be giving some of it back down track with the rolling resistance over street tires.

Talking Re: How can I reach 12's? Practice, practice, practice !

My apologies to Henny Youngman.

See sig - that was with a 1.909 60' on Kumhos @ 30 ish psi - whatever they were when I drove off the street on to the track. I launched at 1500 RPM.

Hell, first run of that night - track conditions were perfect ! - was a 12.917 @ 107.32 , launching at idle.

Basic free mods (FRA, EGR ! - kind of a misnomer as the EGR is still there, just the tube where it goes into the intake was hacked off ), TPS, Lid, K & N , HPP III , Borla, and , of course, a 3200 stall.

Of those , after the stall I'd say the best mod is the FRA, and the HPPIII seemed to help a good bit as well , judging by the ol' butt meter.

Your results may vary.

Good Luck ! And, have fun.

Re: How can I reach 12's?

I've put down a 2.0 60' time on Sumitomo with 15,000 hard miles on them(about 1/4 tread left). Although the track where I went to is always well prepped and much stickier than the street. All I did was hold the brake and rev the engine to 1300 RPM and let off the brake while rolling onto the gas at the same time. The secret is rolling onto the gas, and not stabbing it. I ran a 8.59 6 times that night, and no slower than a 8.61

Re: How can I reach 12's?

yeah my potenza's were running 2.0-2.2 all day and I even ran a 1.9 @20 psi last week. Just dumped the clutch at 3k and it hooked. Not really worth it to me to sacrifice daily driving for a couple of trips to the track, I say go with firestone firehawks next best thing to drag radials.
