How can I reach 12's?

I finally bought a house with a big *** garage so I can work on the z all winter. My goal is mid to high 12's. I have an '02 z28 with only a Loudmouth and K&N. Lookin for mainly bolt on's and ways to get it to the ground. I would like to stay N/A. Is this number attainable with bolt ons? Thanx for any help.

Re: How can I reach 12's?

guys ran high 12s with just slicks on a bone stock 02 ls1....so yeah...bolt ons 11s are possible.

SSRA, lid, longtube headers, tune, sfc, lower control arms and brackets and sticky tires should have you mid/low 12s with good driving skills.

is it an auto? if so get a decent stall converter and 3.73 gears
manual....a good shifter and shift light and some 4.10 grs

Check Sig....

Drive it like you sole it. Some headers too won't hurt the 1/4 mile times.

If you can't drive, just add a little N20 and you'll be there real fast.

Nice thought, but, unfortunately it still takes a few extra parts to get there. Hell, my best time is a 13.02, yet the last 2 weeks in a row, I haven't run any quicker than 13.47!? For whatever reason (I think it's been traction) I can't get any quicker than 2.1 60' times, so 1.9's and 13.0's have been completely out of the question.........yet a month ago I thought I was on the verge of 12's with nothing more than the 4.10 gears I've got.

My best is a 12.46 @ 112.6 w/ a 1.9 60' and a 8.0 1/8 @ 89 mph w. only Air Lid, No Filter, Loudmouth, and 4.10 gear.

You seem to have more problems then the average 01/02 in getting into the 12's..A well driven 02 6spd if not there should be knocking on the doors of 12's stock...as for autos gears should get ya there

Drop those 4.10's to 3.73's on the a4 and you'll be 12's.

Re: How can I reach 12's?

Thanx for the help guys. My car is an M6, and I think I have some driving skills

I had no idea the '02's were so strong. What does a typical SS or WS6 of the same year turn stock?? I see alot of people with "free mods" Do they really work and is there a noticable gain?

Re: How can I reach 12's?

well, sometimes it depends if the Joe the engine guy on the assembly line was having a good day or bad day. If your motor was built on a Monday, no stock 12's for you. Joe was depressed because it was Monday. If it was built on Friday, forget about it. Joe was thinking about the weekend, not about your motor. So that leaves Tuesday, Wensday and Thrusday as good days for Joe. So you have a 3 out of 5 chance of having a strong motor

Stock horsepower will vary from car to car. That is why it may be easier for some guys to get into the 12's than others. Then there is always the factory freak that ran 12's bone stock, I think some magazine tested one that ran 12.89 bone stock.

You can be in the 12's with less than $250 in mods. Get some sticky tires with that money and head up to the track. Also do the free ram air mod and you can hack saw off the muffler for free too.

Re: How can I reach 12's?

my all time bone stock was 13.08 @ 106 in crappy weather, at 32 psi street tires, after doing burnouts and leaving the engine running in the staging lanes. I could have probably hit 12s in my stock '98. Just gotta know how to drive.

I had 3.73's last year and ran a best of 13.43 @ 104.....some improvement.

Believe this or not, but even with 4.10 gears, the car bogs off the line. What I (and every A4) need is a stall converter. Solid 12's for sure.
