How big is to big?(exhaust)
How big is to big?(exhaust)
i was just wondering how big of a pipe i should use. I was thinking of using 3 inch piping into turndowns. Is that to big should i go with 2.5 inches? I also am wanting to run an H pipe.
Re: How big is to big?(exhaust)
3" piping is fine, you may lose a bit of low end torque but will really gain on the top end.
i personally would try something like 2.75" pipe, get a little more clearance
and i think an X pipe yields better sound and power than the Hpipe

Re: How big is to big?(exhaust)
so then what is a good setup to go with? I went to a few shops around and they were concerned with the clearance. I want my exhaust to be loud,so i was thinking of glasspack turndown before the axle. Would that be loud?
Re: How big is to big?(exhaust)
I've heard 4inch exhaust pipes would be too much of a pipe, becuse you still need some back pressure or you could end up loseing horsepower.
If your worried about clearence issues, you can always get the bmr panhard rod relocation kit. It allows you to use a bigger ehaust pipe over the axle.
Some people get an elictric cut-out, so when they want loud or stock its a close, open deal.

Seeing as you have clearence issues, i don't think you would loose anything important by going to 2.5". Then again, i'm not sure what your clearence is like right now. How much did you lower it?
Glasspacks are overrated and outdated technlology in my opinion. They would be loud but if you go with a bullet muffler, no muffler, no cat, or like sir dyno said, a cut-out, you won't have to worry about sound.
Even the stock sound is very sexy again, IMO.

i dont have it lowered yet but i was going to get the eibach pro springs.

Re: How big is to big?(exhaust)
Glasspacks = crap
I have yet to see any packs that didn't drop down .25" in diameter for the tubing inside the muffler. Either get twisters, bullets, or some chambered sticks that don't neck down or go with something like the Borla XR1.
I have a 4" mufflex. Needing backpressure is a myth. Larger pipes are great for HP but drop torque due to lost velocity.
Eibiotch pro's aren't that low, but I've read too many posts about them settling lower in the rear and letting the car hit the bumpstops.

If you decide that you want a Mufflex 3.5 or 4" system, we have a GP running right now. Email us at sales@fasttoys.net with the year and model of your car for pricing.
