How bad is it to bounce off the rev limiter in an A4?
I have been having some probs with my trans recently, so I hit the rev limiter a few times at WOT. What damage can result from this? How will I know if I damaged something?
Shouldn't hurt anything. The rev limiter is a computer program that cuts fuel at a certain RPM to keep you from mechanically over-revving the motor. When you mechanically over-rev the motor (like shifting into the wrong gear with a M6) then you usually bend the pushrods and that's about it.Good luck.

I'm not sure how you can hit the rev-limiter in an A4, so I can't say that you didn't/couldn't cause damage. I'll tell you in my M6 that the rev limiter kicks in before you know it, and more importantly before the tach registers 6200 rpm. The tach seems slow when it is winding up and I have to shift before red-line or I will hit the limiter.

its fine for the motor, your trans hates you.
I was always told bouncing off the rev limiter causes excess strain on your valvetrain and doing it often can cause some problems in the long term. I forget the specifics of why this is true, but I stand by it. I hate bouncing off the rev limiter.

but kissing it once or twice isn't all that bad
