Horsepower

I have a 2001 SS Camaro w/slp options, and borla quad tip borla exhaust. What I'm planning on doing is putting on z06 Corvette heads, high flow cats, and a hot cam. What would be the most horsepower I could get out of that? (Right now, with the Ram air, Ls1, the quad tip'd borla exhaust system, im roughly estimating 350hp? Someone with a better estimation please verify?)
Thanks.

Re: Horsepower

Also, if not going that route, which would be the cheapest & easiest way to break 400+ horsepower??

Re: Horsepower

what kind of horsepower... to the motor or to your rear wheels?

Re: Horsepower

cheapest and easiest....nitrous

all motor would be a cam swap with the supporting bolt ons.

you don't need heads for it either.

look through my setup, i'm at 400rwhp right now.

there are alot of things to consider when planning a hp goal. is it auto or manual, emissions, drivability.

if drivability is a concern than you are better off doing a milder cam and ported heads like some 5.3L heads. you'll get good power but still be pretty street friendly.

or just go with a 23x cam and stock heads and you'll come close to your goal.

Lower.

If your aim is 400 rwhp, get some LT's, an ORY, keep your stock heads and get a big cam and a good tune. That should put you in the neighborhood you're looking for, maybe some other bolt ons would help. Do you have an M6 or A4? There are a bunch of people on this board who have roughly 400 rwhp on stock heads, you will need to upgrade valve springs and I think pushrods as well if you go with a big cam, but you'll still be spending less than buying a set of heads. And remember: all the answers usually are right here.

Re: Horsepower

I have an M6, I would really like to hit 450rwhp. Emissions really isn't a problem, Alabama there's no emissions check. Drivability, its an everyday driving car, I just want to pep it up to atleast 400+hp.
But, I'm no mechanic and I have absolutely no idea where to start...So any suggestions are very appreciated. I have a friend thats worked on cars since he was 9, but I would like a outside opinion, and figure you guys know more than he does. Could you guys give me some sites, and a mod list of what you beleive would get me there?

Thanks, Caleb

Re: Horsepower

Well, I know nO2 would get me...But I want to run the engine clean, no nO2, turbo's, or superchargers..

Re: Horsepower

Real men don't need or use nitrous oxide. Good way to mess up a perfectly good engine.

Re: Horsepower

lol 20 years ago... people here run nitrous all day long and thier motors are fine... i think that technology has advanced enough so that it is pretty safe. also im sure these people know how to use it

Re: Horsepower

NO2 isn't a permanent effect..You use it, and it runs out..It's a cheap way of winning the race..

Re: Horsepower

400rwhp is a VERY attainable goal. with minimal money compared to other engines.

look through my mod list, as i said before...i'm at 400 to the wheels now.

but a short list:

lid, long tube headers, true duals and a 23x cam and dyno tune and you should be right at your goal.

as with most of the lists of mods for guys on here, there are alot of small mods listed. they help, but are not a vital part of reaching your goal. the nice thing about them is that they are typically things you can do yourself with minimal mechanical knowledge, basic tools and they will allow you to learn as you go. building up to the bigger stuff like a cam install.

NOW...
450rwhp...that's a loftier goal. it will be pushing the limits of streetability and durability on a stock bottom end. not saying it can't or hasn't been done, but you really need supporting mods for that. a big cam, good flowing heads, injectors, probably fuel pump. not to mention you'll probably be pushing the limits of the LS6 intake...meaning something like the FAST LSx intake will be needed.

i agree with abe....SEARCH
