How much additional rear wheel horsepower can I expect from Hooker long tube non-catted coated headers,electric water pump and tensioner? Thanks

 

I don't have personal experience (yet) with headers, but typically they seem to bump the power up by ~25 - 30 HP (more or less, depending on other mods you may have) ... I would expect at least ~20 RWHP, if not more (probably closer to ~30) from LT's alone .

The electric water pump? Honestly not too sure . The water pump probably draws around ~5 flywheel HP maybe?? I wouldn't expect much more than that, but I really don't know for sure.

 

I dont know about LS1's but the e-WP gains are around 10rwhp...

 

I'd say you should easily see 25rwhp from those mods. A full, free-er flowing catback (instead of a simple muffler swap) may free up a little more. Also, getting your AFR in line should help some too.

 

i HIGHLY doubt that LTs alone gain anywhere near 30hp...maybe with a tune...but 15hp of that 30 would be from the tune alone.

the electric pumps are still somewhat of a mystery on the LSx engines. due to the high price they are not very popular. i'm sure they free up some power, but who knows how much.

now i've seen many times guys getting 7-10rwhp from the electric units on the LT1 engines...and those are cam driven not belt driven like the LSx.

so i would think you could easily see similar ...if not more...power from the pumps on the LSx. besides the fact that you'll get better cooling at slower rpms due to a constant pump speed.

 

I'd guess at 30-35 rwhp total.

 

I would agree on what everone says about the LT's (15- 25 hp) gain, but GM Hightech Performance did a before and after dyno with the electric waterpump and if I remember correctly they only gained 2 HP. At around $500 a pop, that doesn't sound like your getting much bang for your buck !

The most I have seen was 22 rwhp with long tubes. Has allot to do with what else is done to the car.

advertisers are obvously going to inflate their numbers. that's why most say "up to".....that way you can't bitch if you only get 10...when they say "up to 40hp"

That is total bs. 7-10 hp is the normal gain from electric water pumps on any small block. What would make the LS1 factory water pump magical and only use 2 hp? No way can you drive a WP at high rpm with 2 hp.
Would you happen to know what issue this would be in? I'd like to read it.

The issue in which the test was done was November of 2004 and you're right it wasn't 2 HP , it was a WHOPPING 4.8 HP! Now I'm not the smartest guy in the world ,but $500 for 4.8 HP is not best use of that much money. I do agree 100% on the fact if you are doing alot of bracket racing it will definately cool your car alot better than the factory belt driven pump.
