hooker vs borla

I noticed hooker exaust ws about half the price of Borla and I was wondering the big differance between the two. is Borla worth the extra money?? (loud, HP gain, Gas savings??)

i believe borla is supposed to give you maybe 5 more hp than hooker, but most people buy borla for the quality, look, adjustible sound/loudness.

A lot of the price difference comes from the fact that the Borla system is stainless steel, and the Hooker is not. Both units flow well and will give similar gains. Good luck!

I know a kid with Borla on his 02 Z28. Sounds horrendous. SLP LTs, ORP, to open Borla is what he has. I had the same on my LT1 except my LTs are Jet-Hots and it sounded almost as bad. I switched to Hooker. To combat rust I painted the inside of my cat-back as best I could with high temp engine paint. IMO the Borla isnt worth it and I believe the kid I mentioned changed his Borla out too.

I have a friend with the same setup on his 98 z28, and it sounds nasty. He always tells me he wishes his car sounded like a mustang, a MUSTANG!! But it's really up to personal opinion, and mine is that Borla is a nice setup, although I've heard of some poor build quality as of late(adjuster plate flanges welded on wrong so the tip is crooked, happened to two guys I know), but it is not worth the money, especially with the sound. But that's just my opinion.

Tom

ps-I know there are some nice sounding mustangs, but it's the fact that he wishes it sounded like a mustang instead of a nice ls1. Sad, sad, sad.

Anyone have any LS1 sound bytes? Or Video files? I would like to hear it before I give an opinion.

The sound byte is ok. I had to keep the quality low for dial-up users. As for the movies, it's harder to hear the exhaust because of background music & Saleen Mustangs . In the second movie, you can distinguish my exhaust by listening for the chirp into 2nd.

I have a video of my Hooker if you want but have no where to host it. So if you are interested post or pm me your email. You can find sites with clips on them to.

Actually, my mods are K&N + lid + Granatelli MAF + SLP Bellows on the intake...and most people say the lid and filter are the only things you get any power out of. On the exhaust, I have stock manifolds + stock cats + SLP y-pipe + Borla. In the end it's basically a lid & catback if you believe what everyone says about the MAFs and bellows.

PS - Yes, I'm sure the Saleen was supercharged. I saw it under the hood before we raced.

SSpdDmon- I'm NOT calling you a liar. I know a 500hp Cobra Mustang that only ran a 13.5 (He said it was cause of his tires). But if what ur saying is true, then either one of two things is happening: 1) Mustangs don't hook up, 2) Mustangs drive around with "bad" tires. What makes the new supercharged cobras so much faster then?

An S281 and a '03 Cobra are two very different animals. The blown Saleen's engine is the 2V from the GT. It is rated about the same (rated at 365hp) as a stock LS1 f-body actually does put out. There aren't a ton out there, so I'm not sure what they dyno at. With SSpDmon's mods, he would be able to (and did) take the S281 without much of a problem...
