Question Hooker Cat back

I've been reading this board since I bought my Z back in July. Its an 02. Pics are in the URL in the sig. I have been lookin specifically for info on how to make the car sound more aggressive. Chevy really could have done a better job in making the stock exhaust sound more ballsy. I just bought an 04 GT for the wife and it has a great sound.....love that rumble!! Anyhow, after reading several threads on the cat back systems out there, Ive pretty much settled on the Hooker. Its price is reasonable, and from what I have read it should last a decent amount of time for the material it is made from. My question is, will I have any problems with any sensors in the computer with the increased flow through the system which may result in the idiot lights coming on? Are there any problems associated with the car after it is installed that I should be aware of?. I have never done anything like this and am just curious. Thanks in advance for the input guys/gals.

I would check out the new magnaflow system before you make a decision. Great price, stainless like factory, great sound, and looks good. Just my .01

Id punch a few holes in the stock muffler 1st. Then when it rusts out look around for a new catback. Really if you look around theres plenty of exhust sytems that will add some HP to your car a Hooker alone wont do it. If all you want is sound then Id look into a chambered muffler and I dont mean GMMG. Altho sounds great big $$$. You might want to look into http://www.sweet-thunder.com good product good prices and Mikes easy to deal with.

re chambered mufflers

Could you explain the difference with a chambered muffler and a normal muffler. What type of sound do they give? looking for a muffler to slip onto the stock exhaust system that sounds better than my aerochamber. With out the expense of the loudmouth.

Thanks for the replies so far fellas. I looked at the magnaflow system. I'm not sure if I like that way it looks coming out the back. The tips seem abit long. It is the "sound" I'm looking for. If I get horse power gain in the process thats cool. I dont and wont run it in races, and I'm not too interested in how fast it will do the 1/4 mile. Just looking for a system to give the car "That sound", and look good out the back. As I said when I started the thread, I'm just concerned about whether or not I need to worry about the exhaust monitoring system built into these cars. I have never messed with an exhaust system and am just curious. I checked out the chambered mufflers. Are they legal in all 50 states?....I have no clue about any of this stuff....thats why I'm here doing searches and asking questions, so I can learn abit and make a somewhat educated decision....thanks again in advance for any response.

02 Qruzin None of these suggested setups will affect the cars system. The only thing you should be concerned with is the db levels. What sounds good to you might be a ticket from the local cops if its too loud. Thats something different everyplace you go. A chambered muffler is legal as in emmisions. Good luck in choosing a setup and enjoy the ride

That simply isn't true. A catback will add power. And the Hooker certainly adds power.

Qruzin - you won't have to worry about setting any SES lights. The Hooker sounds nice at WOT, but is fairly tame at idle (assuming stock exhaust manifolds & y-pipe). I like the sound of the Hooker. I *love* the sound of the Hooker with longtube headers...

good luck,
Shane

Shane...Jay,

How much more db will the Hooker produce? I'm sure you have heard how the Mustang GT sounds. I'd like my Z to have just a little more rumble to it than the GT my wife drives. Jay is correct. I dont want it so loud that the cops will be lookin for me, that it wont pass VA state inspection, or that my neighbors will be hatin me when I leave for work at 5:30 AM. But it definately needs more rumble. I'm hoping the Hooker cat back is the answer.

The Hooker catback system will do fine. It will have a better tone then a GT certainly a louder purr. If all your going to do is replace the muffler.not the I or Y Pipes then all the "muffler" will do is change the tone. Any increases in power IF any will be slight.
