hey, torque converter questions...

Hey guys, go to www.cardomain.com/id/ozorowsky and check out page 5 my current mods are on there. Anyways, I plan on supercharging my car within the next year, and am currently running mid 12's all day long on street tires. I am thinking of getting a converter and throwing some et streets on to break into the 11's. What converter is a good converter all around for street strip, where to buy from cheap, but get a good quality one. It'll be a few months before I buy one, but I am thinking about it, or should I wait until after the supercharger? I was thinking of maybe getting a 3500 stall, but is that too big for a street car? My is on the street A LOT more than the strip. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest getting the vigilate 3200 converter they are around 700 new but you can pick one up used ofr around 400-500. You can also get a TCi 3500 super street fighter they sell for about 550 new from jegs and summit. There are alot of guys running 11`s on those converters. They are 2 proven converters in our cars.

The Vig3200 would be nice, it actually stalls around 3500 rpm. With your 3.73s it shouldn't be too loose at all. I'm running a ST3500 with stock gears and the only time it slips alot is when I'm caught on a hill behind some who can't drive the speed limit (or fast enough for it to lock-up).

what do you mean exactly by slipping a lot? What should I know about Torque Converters? What is there to consider? I want something that is VERY streetable, will have good top end power, because if I add to low end, that just means more wheelspin, and I want something that will shave about .5 off my 1/4. I'm trying to get into the 11's. All motor so far. Then, I'm going with a procharger. So I also need to keep that in mind. A converter that will work good with a procharger. Why would one converter work better with a procharger, vs. another that will not work that great with a procharger? Let me know, thanks.

Well a converter is a compromise. You want to go fast it will have to be loose. You want good streetability it won't be as fast.
I have a Yank st3800 and when you take off normally the rpms will go to 2400-3000 depending upon how hard you step on the gas and stay there 'till you level off at speed. If you floor it, you will shred any street tires as it goes to 3800 -4000 rpms. But this converter took my 60' from a dead hooking 1.93 on drag radials to a dead hooking 1.64 on ET streets and gave me ~.6 et improvement. Now a more mild mannered converter will not give you these good results at the track. I hear that the new Yank SS series converters give the same track results with better street manners but they are EXPENSIVE, near $1000. You can have your cake and eat it too but you'll have to pay the price.
Now as far as getting a converter that will work well NA and blown forget it. You'll have to decide which way you want to go. If you get a converter that works well NA then add the supercharger the extra power will make the converter flash way to high. Some with nitrous get converters that are designed for the shot and just live with them NA. Like I said compromises.
