Exclamation Help...Strange Noise Neer Red Line

Help, I've noticed this noise for awhile, but can't figure it out. I get this engine noise near red-line, about 5000 rmp. Its hard to describe, but it sounds to me like floating valves, but that can't be...can it? Its like a very fast "tick tick", but what ever it is, it doesn't sound good.

A budy thought maybe I bent a push rod, but I would think if I had done that, the car would not run as good as it does. Everything eles seems to be fine.

Well if anyone has any ideas or suggestions, I would be appreciative.

Thanks,
Will

if you are getting it in 1st on hard accell and let off as soon as you hear it you might be bouncing off the rev limiter. it sounds like the engine is cutting out (because it basicaly is) but if you let off it comes right back.

the tachs are pretty slow, and cant keep up with the engine in first, so if you are hard on it, you could be at 6200 and the tach might only be reading 5000 or so...

of course if you are getting it steadily, i dunno what it is...

I have the same problem/issue. It happens on my car in every gear approaching redline. I'll notice it most in 3rd and 4th gear because the engine stays in the RPM band longer in those gears. If it's the same thing, it's detonation. Could be caused by a bunch of things, low octane gas, bad O2 sensor, heat, valves, etc.

I think you guessed it. I think its deonation, but I don't think its from low octane. I tryed using a octane boost, that didn't help. So i'm going check the o2 sensors, then maybe the valves.

Thanks for the help,
Will
