Help with my LS1

Alright heres the deal, i am fairly new at this game. I recently purchased a 99 camaro SS competely stock M6.. It has 30,000miles so fairly new...It's been a little dream of mine for a while. Anyway, i need some advice on where to start with the upgrades. I already have a LS6 intake on the way, so thats covered. But exhaust i can't decide on, heres what i am thinking and heres where i need advice. I am thinking about Hooker LT coated, with High flow cats to try and cut down on rasp, with SLP LM. I want the loudness but not the rasp, is this a good choice, should I get a diff. cat back?? Anyone with input, by all means tell it.

Re: Help with my LS1

Welcome to the site and the LS1 world. Could you do me a little favor though????
Use the search feature to find relavent threads or just read the first 5 pages or so. I'd dare to bet that there are at least 20 threads with 100s of post on exhaust in those first 5 pages.
thanks

Re: Help with my LS1

agreed...search or read...

i toned down the rasp on my LT setup by installing an 18" bullet muffler behind the Ypipe. seemed to help.

get a different exhaust, maybe something like the GMMG. it's a bit more $$ but it sounds amazing with no cats. the LM will be raspy even with cats

the LS6 intake is a good mod, proven gains. now make sure to get a lid to help air in. any lid will do.

There are lot of options for an exhaust. The best way is to hear them and decide which you like best. If you want "loud" with some decent gains and minimal costs...then I would say get a cutout. A bullet muffler behind the Y will cut down on any raspiness you may experience. The GMMG and Loudmouth both sound good...basically comes down to your preference. Hope that helps some. Good luck

Re: Help with my LS1

I have a 99 SS camaro also (A4) I have Jethot LTs with the jet hot y-pipe,and the Borla cat-back thats adjustable. I can't tell you how sweet it is to change my exhaust to four different sounds. Not to bust on the loud mouth to much but it sucks really. My brother had it on his WS6 he just uses the cool slp tips now, and replaced the resonator with a bullet, that is until he got his x-pipe and true duals. But if your going to put long tubes on your car your going to be mad when you crank it up with the Loud mouth on their. The loudmouth doesn't give enough restriction against LTs or gutted cats, it makes the car sound like crap and does not give enough back pressure. Now if someone was going to buy the loudmouth for a car that was not going to get any other exhaust modifications from stock it would sound great. Just my experience with that cat back.

the loudmouth is the best flowing system on the market. you DON'T want backpressure. Besides, losing backpressure doesn't cost power, it just relocates it in the power band. If backpressure was a good thing, we'd all be running supertrapp exhaust.

You have to have some back pressure. My brother and two other friends had that system, all the same experience.

Re: Help with my LS1

Welcome. That sounds like a good plan to me. It will be a little louder than a car with stock stuff in front of the LoudMouth. I prefer the way my car sounds with cats. Ironically more compression and a larger cam eliminated most of the rasp w/o cats though.

Yep that's why all the real drag race cars run open headers

You don't need back pressure.

Alright if you have the crapy LM on your f-body, that so called resonator that makes up the LM is nothing more than a hollow pipe. That's why it is one of the best flowing systems on the market. You get some pipe and some chrome tips for $350. Lets all go buy the LM, hell I could make that system myself, my point is it sounds great on a f-fody with factory exhaust, but if you take the cats off or put LTs on or both , if will make your F-body run like crap. And it will sound like crap to.
Drag cars don't have to have Back pressure so what, I'm talking about F-bodys . Are f-bodys do need back pressure, not a lot but some. Al you might want to keep your mouth closed, and just listen when somone has way more expeirence with a certain cat-back, obviously you don't have any.

Let's just say I was wrong about the whole back pressure issue, I'm still right about the way the LM is, I wanted to worn this guy about the LM, so he wouldn't wast his money.

Re: Help with my LS1

Hooker LT's(or kooks/qtp if you could afford, but hooker is nothing to complain about), and tsp true duals! www.texas-speed.com , thats what i'm goin for w/ kooks headers(ordered already), and get ssra(or ftra is not a bad replacement), air lid, air filter, free EGR mod, throttlebody bypass, B&M ripper shifter(i love mine), tires, lca's, torque arm, sfc's, do it now thats the best help i can offer as far as straight line performance bolt ons for as cheap as you can go is oh and i suggest getting a skip shift eliminator, radio shack or anything.

You know that was a really stupid statement on your part. You don't know me. You haven't a clue as to my qualifications. And how in heck would you have any idea whether someone else on this board has more experience with anything than I do.
Jason didn't invite me to moderate the LS1 section cause I was pretty.

Dude I was just talking about your expeirence with the LM. Not your qualifications as a whole. I know I have more expeirence with that cat- back than you.
