Help! I was an idiot!

Ok I'm not going to deny that I was stupid and childish but I need some help. I had my nephew over who was 14 and seeing my car for the first time. He wanted a ride so of course I was all too willing. I took him out to the express way to show him how fast I could go 0-80.

No one was behind me and there was no oncoming traffic so I came to a stop and put my A4 into first. Yes I know I can not shift faster then the computer but hey I was trying to impress my nephew (which was stupid to begin with). Anyway I launched from a dead stop on the entrance ramp and DOH! I forgot to turn off traction control. Ok I'm dumb. I stop the car and turned off TC. I launched again, spun the tires, bounced off the rev limiter as I did not shift up to second fast enough. When it bounced off I saw the service engine soon light pop on. I shifted to third and then into drive.

The car drove fine. I got off the highway a few miles later and then went back home. The car was off for a few hours and then I drove him home (20 minutes each way so 40 minutes total). The car drove completly normal. No odd sounds, shifted fine, accelerated fine but the service engine soon light still stayed on.

Did I hurt the car some how? Any idea what I might have broken? Any help is greatly appreciated.

The best thing you can do for your car is stop trying to act like you're driving a stick.

I doubt you caused any damage, probably the computer got mixed messages when you hit the rev limiter. If you know how to reset the computer that will clear the service engine light, if you don't know how just take it to AutoZone and they'll clear it for you free.

Thanks for the replies. I feel better now because I was thinking the same thing but figured I'd ask more experienced LS1 owners before I brought my car to the dealership and played dumb (an easy job for me let me tell ya).

Seriously though I'll be taking my car to autozone tomarrow to get the SES light cleared. I think I'm done with trying to drive my A4 like a M6. I'll just leave it in D from now on and let the tranny do it's job.

Thanks again. You guys here are the best.

I'm sure you tripped the "Transmission Abuse" flag in the computer. I don't know if that throws the light or not, but it is a code that shows up when the dealer scans it using a Tech-II.

Head to AutoZone and have it scanned. They can tell you the code that you threw and clear it for you.

Post the code in here and I'm sure one of us can tell you what it was.

I went to autozone and they cleared it. It's been fine all day so it seems fine now. They showed me the code (two actually) and I forgot what they were but something to do with 02 sensors and exhaust. I remember me and the autozone guy looked at each other like okay why it threw those codes for bouncing off rev limiter is wierd.

But the codes were cleared and the SES light has not come back on so I'm

Thanks again.
