Well I'm looking for a full powertrain warrenty, not just for a specific part. Repair bills add up and with a warrenty, it pays itself off. New rear end... $500-$700 at GM ummm.... new tranny from not racing $2400. So it will pay itself off. I just want to know if anyone knows of any good places for extended warrenties?

You should have some in and out movement on your rear axles on a c-clip style axle. A rule of thumb is .000 - .020", closer to .010". Do not tell the dealer to replace your spider gears, you don't have them. The Zexel has side gears that are meshed with long worm cut gears. You will notice you don't have a pinion shaft (cross shaft), only a thrust block, this takes the place of the pinion shaft/spider (pinion) gear set-up. I wouldn't take it apart unless you have a lot of time on your hands. When the worm cut gears fall out of the case they are a pain to put back in. Zexel makes a jig that you assemble the side gears and worm gears in then slid the carrier over the top of it. If you pull the cover and don't see any metal or abnormal wear, your axleshaft endplay is w/in specs., pull the rear brake rotors. The drum in hat set-up has been known to come off the retainer causing some wierd stuff. Do you feel anything if the steering wheel when this occurs? When you get this noise, does it immediately go away on accel or returning the wheel to the straight ahead position? Does the intensity of the noise decrease as you slow down (wheel speed related)? Any other info. you have on the condition? Good luck.

I got an extended warranty from my local dealership. I think they did it through "Werns" or something like that. I'd have to look it up.

Anyway, 4 additional years (7 years total) and 100,000 miles. ZERO deductable. $950. Paid $200 down and paying the remainder over 12 months with zero interest. $62.50 / month

Extended warranties are just like buying a car ... negotiate your best deal and if you don't like it, leave and go to another dealer. I bought my warranty from Serra Chevrolet, but bought my car from Sunrise Pontiac. Sunrise would ONLY offer the GMMP at a cost of $2,000 -- cash up front.

However, once your car is out of the 3/36 warranty, they usually require an inspection and a higher premium. I bought mine with 35,500 miles on the odometer.

kjlvilla: I don't feel anything in the steering wheel, just hear the noise. It occurs very noticeably when I turn left(very loud) when I turn right it is sometimes not noticeable and when It is it is very very soft. I took off the cover and had no metal chunks. Just the normal shine on the magnet. It also does not happen when I am accelerating, only when I let off the gas and turn left. The sound also intensifies when I put it in neutral. The noise gets slower the slower I go but it stays at the same volume. I will take off the rotors and see if I see anything. Thanks for the input

When you pull your rotors, check for witness marks on your bolt heads on the end of the axle tubes. Look for anything that may be flexing on turns and touching. Also, in some mid 90's f-bodies there was a condition where the axle had enough endplay, the shaft and rotor would walk out of the housing, on turns, enough to contact the pad in the caliper, causing a grinding noise. Try pulling on the rotor and see if it pulls out enough to touch the outboard pad. Although I haven't heard of it in the Zexels. Good Luck.
