Help!!

I have 2000 z28. The ac compressor is going bad. The berrings are about shot. It's expensive ti fix. I was woundering if any knew if I could just bypass the compressor, and get a shorter belt? Would it work? Is there anything else I would need other than a belt. Thank's for your help in advance.

Re: Help!!

AC has it's own belt. Just remove it.

Not if he plans on fixing it. It's better left in place to keep the system sealed 'till he gets a new pump.

He never said he wanted to fix it. He said he wanted to bypass it. So why not take out the entire system and save some weight?

Re: Help!!

Thank's for your responses. I am planning to fix it. I didn't know there was two belts. Some people told me once the compressor goes that's it. The belt will snap and I'll be stuck on the side road. Thank's for your help.

Re: Help!!

My compressor crapped out and my belt never broke. I drove it that way for over 6 months until I got it fixed. Just don't turn your AC on and the pulley won't engage or pull your fuse like I did.

He never said that he wanted to remove it. So why would you assume that bypass means remove.
