Question Heating question:

Hey Everyone. I was just curious on what could be wrong with my heater. For some reason, it goes into defrost a lot. Meaning, no matter what you put it on, max, ac, etc. defroster comes on. If you put it on max, and let it run for a bit, it will switch over to the vents after like 3 mins. Any ideas on what could be sticking? What i could check out? Oh, and after it switches to vents, it is fine until you put it on defrost, then take it off of defrost, it sticks for 3 mins or so, then goes through the vents as it should. Warranty is up, so I have to fix this one myself. Thanks.

Lightbulb Unless they have drastically changed HVAC systems, then ...

Their are vaccuum motors that direct the airflow to the appopriate ducts for defrost, A/C, etc.

If one of those bad boys was sticking, I could see it causing your troubles.

Now, how to see and/or fix those bad little boys - that's a whole different story !!

Best bet is to skim thru the Chilton's/Haynes @ the local parts store & buy the one w/ the most info on HVAC troubleshooting.

I gotta bring my Hayne's to work tomorrow for a buddy, so if there is anything good in there I'll post about it.

Better yet, if there is anything good in it and you have a fax, I'll copy some pages for ya.

Hope this helps !

Probably a vacume problem. When the heater controls mess up, they are set to default to defrost, the safest mode for the heater to be stuck in. Check your vacume lines going to the heater control.

k, guess I'll pull out the Haynes manual after the weather gets a little better, and I'll tear the dash apart. Thanks for info. I was guessing it'd be a vacuum line too. Thanks.
