Plus if something goes wrong and its because of the install its covered by the shop so you dont have to pay for very costly repairs if something goes wrong. Whether you can convince the shop that whatever went wrong was from the install is a different story. If you take it to some place where a bunch of a$$ sh*ts work like Speed Inc they wont care, but if you take it to a good and reputable shop it shouldnt be a problem.
Any guess at how much that would cost?

Wow, how ignorant of you. No reason to bash a shop just because you feel they did you wrong. I've been going to Speed Inc. since they first opened and they've been absolutely awesome 100% of the time. I know over 1000 people who will say the same. Don't be so immature please.

just make absolutely sure, after the H/C are installed, that the car is dynotuned
not only for gaining more power, but to help the car in the long run.

Ummm... so if a shop does you wrong, are you going to say, "Yeah so-and-so is awesome, sure they totally dicked me over, but man they're just the best."

If someone has a bad experience, they have every right to vent negatively. You may not agree in comparison to your experiences, but he definitely wasn't being "immature" about it.

Making a negative blanket statement about a shop that has an excellent reputation with plenty of people to back it up without anyone from the shop able to retort, is immature. It's ignorant to cry about how he thinks they wronged him in a thread that's about something else. The kid is 18 years old though so I'm not (unfortunately) surprised.

I wasnt trying steal this thread away, but they screwed up my install horribly and then treated me like sh*t when I told them there was a problem and then I had to pay them to fix the problem by putting the stock part back in. The majority of threads out there with complaints against a shop are about Speed Inc. For every ten or so cars that go there and get done right and people leave with praises about 1 or 2 dont and people leave with complaints. Im not gonna say they are completely worthless shop b/c you can have good luck with them. But is it worth the risk of them screwing up? I think not. Its worth it to take it to a shop that hardly ever recieves complaints. I wasnt trying to cry about it, I was telling him about taking it to a reputable shop and used a personal example because I felt like I was wronged and I had no right to be treated the way I was treated. How does that make me immature. If you want to go make personal attacks at me because your opinion of a shop is different then mine then go elsewhere and IMO the fact that you cant respect my opinion which I am entitled to and go ahead to insult me is pretty immature. You can go ahead and say what you want but I wont post on this topic again in this thread cause this will only result in a flame war with a lock and the original poster did ask a question that he wants to be answered.

Peace

Right On!

Like others have said, I wouldn't do any major engine work unless I knew exactly what I was doing and have done it several times at least.

H/C is a big job. Unless you are very good at turning a wrench and have a vast reserve of ptience farm it out to a reputable shop. Ask them for references and talk to a couple customers that have had the same work done in the past. Be sure to inspect the work they've done and are currently doing when you visit. If they won't let you look over their shoulder for a second they must not want your money too bad. I know there are insurance regulations and all that. But usually shops will show you around.

1. What are the limitations for cams with stock heads?
- I dont have enough money for H&C. Just want to get a Cam, but i'm looking for 400rwhp.

2. How much gas milage do you loose btwn say 220 and 230 cam?
- I know that when owning these cars we shouldn't be concerned with gas milage, but for those of us that are young and this is our only car, it IS a consideration we have to consider in our decision.

3. I already have the LS6 Clutch, so I should be good for the added power.

OK... I bought the Patriot 5.7 stage 2 heads, and a CC-4 cam from Comp Cams. They included push rods and all gaskets. Do I HAVE to replace the valves etc?
How much power should this combo make? Anybody have this setup?
Thanks,
Chris

Yeah you should replace your valves and retainers. As far as power what are the specs on the cam?

I have a 2002 M6 Z28 that had about 11,500 miles on it when I had my cam and headers installed. The cam is a Comp 224/.581/114 and the headers are Hooker. They also replaced the pushrods, valve springs, plugs, and wires when they did the cam. They did NOT replace the timing chain, oil pump, or retainers. I asked them about that and they said that since the car had very few miles on it I'd be fine and they'd never seen a broken retainer with my setup. I dynoed 388 RWHP and 371 RWTQ with the above listed mods plus Magnaflow cat-back and MTI lid. I have the stock MAF (de-screened) and FRA. Before the cam I got just over 200 miles per tank and now I get almost exactly 200 (I've pushed it further a few times but I don't like to). Hope this helps!

The blanket statement that a H/C swap should not be done is a little too broad for me.
Whether this is something you want to tackle yourself is a question that only you can answer based on a few questions.

1. Do you have the proper tools to do the swap? The main tools that a lot of people don't have are Torque wrench and a dial indicator.
You'll also need a degree wheel. The rest of the tools you view at install university.
2. Do you have a place to do the swap? I would not recommend doing this job in a driveway. Something unforseen could happen and then you have your car torn apart in the driveway.
3. Are you able to leave the car for multiple days(if needed) torn apart? [When parts don't come, emergency comes up etc..]
4. How comfortable are you with a wrench(aka how much experience do you have OR Do you know someone who has done this before and is willing to help you?

If you take it to a shop, you are having them take care of all 4 concerns from above and trading that for a few bucks.

I'm not telling you to do it, or not to do it. When I did it, it wasn't that hard. BUT, I had 1-4 covered.
Good luck.
