Headlights question.
Headlights question.
I just noticed on my 98 z28 that when I have my headlights on and turn my high-beams on, the fog lights and the normal headlights turn off, only the high beams are on. Is this normal? Also, if it is normal, is there a way so that all four headlights and foglights stay on when the high beams are turned on?

Not sure if you can do that w/98+ cars, but at least in 93-97 cars it is possible. I think www.projecttransam.com has directions on how to do it.
If you are proficient enough with the electrical stuff, maybe you can figure a way to do it on 98+ cars based on the info...

I had an 85 camaro and when I turned the high beams on, even the low beams would stay on, but with my 98, when I turn the high beams, the low beams turn off. Is there a way to keep both the low beams and high beams on when I turn on the high beams?
Its normal and as for both sets on at once might be an amperage problem. Aside from the fact that the Hi Beams would drown out the low beams anyway. Wouldnt add much more light. Just as the fog lamps are more or less useless with the low beams on. Best solution a set of SilverStars.
Within about 2 weeks of owning my car, I did 2 things
:
1 - disabled the automatic headlights (auto on at night)
2 - disabled the "fog-lights off with hi-beams" feature.
To disable the auto headlights is easy:
Pop up the plastic dash cover, and locate the light sensor beside the alarm LED. There are 2 wires going to that light sensor. You can either A) unplug the sensor, and use a paper clip or a piece of wire to connect the contacts together (basically, you want to by-pass the light sensor) or B) cut the two wires, and join the ends together on the car side. Then, you will have FULL CONTROL over your headlights with the light switch
.
To keep the fog-lights ON even when you switch to hi-beams, do the following:
Pull off the plastic trim around the radio. Going into the back of the fog switch there is a green wire, cut it. Insulate the car side as it will no longer will be needed, but does go hot when the high beams are on. Add a little wire to the switch side of the green wire and ground under one of the radio mount bolts (you MUST get a good ground). Put the switch and radio trim back together. You're done inside the car. Go under the hood, pull up the relay box with the fan and fog relays in it. Going into the bottom of the fog relay is the same green wire, cut it. Extend the relay side about 8" with black wire and ground it. I used the ground screw right next to the relay box, on the strut tower. Insulate the car side of the cut wire as it goes hot with the high beams on. Put everything back together and you are done.
HTH!

The top dash cover comes off no problem. As long as you,re smart about it and don't rush to pull the thing off, you won't have any problems.
I was nervous about the top of the dash myself and originally pulled the center dash bezel and stereo (big waste of time if you ask me) to get to the sensor. It was impossible for me to get my hand in to the sensor, so I decided to pull up the upper dash trim............no problems at all
