Are there any good exhaust set-ups (LT headers, Catted Y-pipe, and cat-back combo) that would be emissions legal and dependable. Unfortunately I live in NoVa so emissions is a big thing. Thanks.

Technically, even with a catted y-pipe, the long tubes would keep you from being emissions compliant for the simple fact that they relocate the cats from their stock locations.

EDIT: BAH! Old threads did it again... That'll happen...

SLP LT's are a waste... THe coating is nice and they come w/ a Y... That's it. The ground clearance is less than desirable. TSP Sells a Pacesetter LT/Y kit for about $600-700. I paid $1200 for my SLP LT/Catted Y kit.

The clearance is MUCH worse on lowered cars. THe power is about average, maybe a bit lower. I really didn't notice a HUGE gain when I installed the headers. Just a big noise increase at WOT, and a bit of TQ.. THat's it. I think it has a lot to do w/ the collector length.

For that much power, i think i will go with an LS6 intake and maybe a ported throttle body. I can't see spending that much on headers.

And whoever made the comment that this isn't a 83 Monte Carlo. thats some funny ****.

nope. I spent 850 shipped from texas to florida and installed it in one day, everything.

I bought coated pacesetters for my ls1 at $379 shipped, an 3" Xpipe (dumped) for $315 shipped from ebay. along with tunning I gained 32rwhp. So Almost $700 for a great sounding system that gave me 32hp more at the wheels and maybe 40 to the fly. that is not expensive. Of course when you first start out HP is cheap, the more you do the more $$$ it will cost. Plus if you are going with a cam and/or heads later on, you are going to need a much better breathing system.

Get a good pair of cheap LT's and an xpipe. And if $700 sounds expensive for 32rwhp, then you picked the wrong hobby.

Ive got an idea. Lets lock this post up in archives for another 5 years and dig it back out. SLP might not even be in business then.

Not the case (at least on my LT1) because I can cut the ypipe so that it does not move the position of the cat. Dont know if you can do that on the LS1s and make it work.
