Headers which ones do I buy?

I have a 99 Trans Am and I am looking to get headers. First of all just a few questions.

What is the difference between Longtube and Mid-length and are either one of them harded to install?
What is the difference between Off-Road and non-off-road and also are either one harder to install?
Can I just order the headers and put them on or is there other things need to have them put on?

Now for the big question which ones should I get? I have about $700.00 to spend.

Also thanks for the help on the cat-back. Just bought the SLP Loudmouth and had it put on last week. I love the sound.
Thanks

Being that you have $700. You pretty much have a choice of MACS or Hookers. Off-road vs. non is that the off-road setup has a Y-pipe minus the catalytic converters. Alas, the regular y-pipe has cats. Long tubes give a little more HP gain. I personally love my MACS. They all can be a bit of a pain to install, mainly the passenger side. Plan on doing your plugs (NGK 55s, if no N20) while you are at it. If you go with the off-road Y-pipe set up, you will also need O2 simms (~$90), you may even need them with a cat Y-pipe.
Basically, you need:
The headers, your choice of Y-pipe (matching the headers), O2 simms if no cats, AIR restrictor mod (search LS1.com or call Fred Bean Pontiac), stage 8 header bolts, gaskets, and the plugs...hell, might as well upgrade to new wires too.

Another Header choice is Jet-Hot. Based on the popular Hooker LT design, but with improvements, they go for $500 coated. You can use an uncoated Hooker LT ORY, and use O2 simms. Total cost ~$770. The Macs will run you about $700. You don't need Stage 8 bolt, you can reuse the OEM one (I did and so have alot of people). I didn't do (nor plan on doing) the air restrictor mod. I have well over 30K miles on my Hookers and no problems at all.

No flame type start,
but, yeah, he can use OME bolts and stuff, I just gave want has worked for me. Stage 8's are great. Alas, I just posted on an unanswered and someone else jumped in. Just hope it all helps. And all of my ideas came in on my 99 at around the $700. Do a search and se what you really want to do. If you go ORY-pipe with the loudmouth (as I did), be ready to be LOUD! You may end up putting in a Dynomax bullet to "settle" it up a bit.
