Exclamation Headers installed insane loud !

Just had Hooker LTB with off road pipes installed, my car already had SLP loud mouth on it and I can not even began to tell how loud the car got. Its insanely loud it’s so loud I am scared to drive the car, it’s so loud that I don’t want to rev the engine more than 2k rpm, its so loud I can’t think in my car, its ear bleeding window shattering loud. I don’t even know why I just did not leave the car in the shop after I heard the car running, I decided to give it a shot I guess. I don’t think any body on the road did not stare at me and my neighbors came out of the house to see if everything was ok. The first thing I am doing on Monday is going back to the shop to get a muffler, anybody got any recommendations? And let this post serve as a warning to all, who want to try a loudmouth with LTB combo on a street car, please please believe me you don’t even want to start to think about doing it.

well the orp doesnt help with the noise
and i would suggest the Magnaflow muffler or have a bullet muffler welded in place of the loud mouth resonator

Instead of cutting out the resonator and fitting a muffler in place I was thinking about just getting a complete exhaust system and selling my Loud mouth.

While the performance is excellent i can not stress enough how loud the car is and its not a good throaty loud like when i just had the loudmouth now its a rattling raspy 10x loud. Plan on getting a ticket every time a Cop is around. This combo is not at all good for a street car. I give it a 2 thumbs down.

Borla, with Electric cutout. Quiet, loud.. Best of both worlds...

I dont have much expirence with harleys so i cant compare but the shop that i get my work done at "Speed INC" is one of the biggest speed shops for f-bodys in the midwest and they said it is probably one of the loudest cars they have had in the shop.

Im putting on FLP's in a few weeks with the LM, and I can tell you I want this bad boy to be loud. It will be a strictly summer car, but a daily durring the summer. The only way Ill change catbacks is if I receive a ticket, or two. I want this puppy to be loud. If its too loud your too old.

theres also a big difference between being loud and throaty and sounding good.. and just being loud and raspy/annoying... i have LT's w/ a cut out and i think its loud as all hell.. but the tone and sound of it is heavenly..... i never cap it up... people hear me from over a mile away when i get on it and i love it

02CamaroZ28 and badeSSt Whats with you guys bashing somebody about there prefrences, neither am i old nor a lady. I just dont like the way the car sounds now. I loved the way the loudmouth used to sound, deep a good loud but the headers with off-road pipes have a irritating loud popping raspy noise which makes the car sound like a POS. Plus i dont want to get any tickets, which i am sure i will get as soon as cop hears me drive by.

ya i agree... most people say loudmouths w/ lt's sound like crap it doesnt sound like a muscle car anymore... i'd do a catback system and have a cut out installed.. or put a stock muffler n and put a cut out ... its loud but it sounds GREAT ... cops shouldnt mess w/ u either... but just dont rev up around them.. i ran mine all through 1st w/ a cop behind me... he pulled me over... but just to find out what i was running @ the track

I live 10 minutes away from Speed Inc and I get to hear this combo(LM + LT headers + offroad pipes) all the time and it sounds like total A$$ to me. Extremely raspy, poppy, and unrefined. He!!a LOUD too! Not a good sound at all for a muscle car IMO.

Just so you know though, any cat-back system will rasp some without cats on an LS1. Some just do it worse than others(with LMs, Borlas, and cutouts being the worst).

Plain and simple, I'd recommend the SLP dual/dual over anything else. 100X quieter than the LM, but sounds soooooooo much better without cats(very, very little rasp). Also, the Hooker cat-back sounds pretty good without cats too(not too much rasp). You could also put a bullet muffler in the I-pipe of either one of these systems to help clean up the rasp a little. But without a doubt, these two systems sound the best to me on catless LS1's.

Hope that helps,

Mike

2000LS1Z28 thank you for the great info. I think I will call the good people at Speed Inc on Monday and see which one of your 2 recommendations they think I will benefit from most. I think I would like to get the SLP system maybe with an electric cutout.
What do you think? I don’t understand what you mean when you say I can add a bullet muffler are you saying that I dump the slp muffler and add a bullet muffler or would this be like an addition to the slp muffler.
