Re: Which Headers?

Flowtechs are not garbage...they are just a cheaper version of the Hookers.

I would get a used set of headers, you can save a lot of money that way. I bought used coated Pacesetters for $325 shipped. The fit was outstanding, they practically installed themselves. Nice gain too...put it on a dyno and after I was finished re-tuning it, I picked up 42 hp & 20 something ft/lbs tq.

Because they were cheaper?

At the time I was looking for headers, they were the cheapest used ones out there. I'm not brand specific just looking for the best deal. There is nothing wrong with flowtechs, and had someone been selling a set for less than what the guy with the pacesetters was asking, I would have bought them.

Any other questions?

42 hp from long tubes only? thats gotta be flywheel hp.

as far as the orig question, I have Jet Hot LTs and they are awesome! I got them for 511 shipped and coated, basically an improved version of Hooker headers. Pacesetters are good, but their fitment varies quite a bit. sometimes they fit great, other times they don't line up well. I'd go with new ones though. A buddy of mine got some Pacesetters on a group purchase for 349 shipped

No it is not flywheel, it is dyno'd. I said I added longtubes AND retuned it. The base run with the LT's before re-flashing showed a gain of 20-25 hp or so. I picked up a strong 15hp & 11 ftlbs/tq from retuning.

Oh, i guess i overlooked the tune part. those are good gains, both headers and tune. Impressive. Thanks for clearing it up.

Re: Which Headers?

Hookers and Pacesetters seem to be good for the price. QTPs, Kooks and the other high-end stuff is probably best, but more than double the price.

Sure. I thought it was a pretty good gain in power for what the cost ended up being.

Re: Which Headers?

Flowtech's quality isnt the greatest...the plan was to build a hooker set of headers using half the budget...it shows. It has bad welds, thin tubing, it has a "dent" in the drivers primary to clear the k-member, and they still have clearance issues. Pacesetters are a much better fit and better quality.

Jet Hot makes their own brand of header and is a great piece. They took Hookers design and improved it, making the tubing thicker, the mounting flanges thicker, and moved the O2 sensor bungs inboard instead of outboard. Plus it has their high temp ceramic coating inside and out.

As said above, if you want the best, look at Kooks or QTP but be willing to get your checkbook out.

Re: Which Headers?

Dynatech Supermaxx are also great F-body LT headers.
