headers

I have an 02 Z with no real mods other than K&N. I was wondering about headers, but will this void the factory warranty? If so what are some good mods w/o voiding it. or some ways around it. Any tips appreciated.

Headers will void the warranty. When I got my SS that was the first mod I was going to do, I asked my service rep, he said that was a no no for now. I would get a strut tower brace for starters. I could really notice the difference immediately. I am still trying to figure out the best Sub frame connectors to get.

No bolt on will void warranty. There was a law passed in 1982, though I cannot remeber the name of it, that prevented an uato manufacture from voiding factory warranty due to an aftermarket part. They have to prove that the part caused the failure. Essentially, if you lose oil pressure and seize the engine, the dealer would have to prove that the header caused the loss in oil pressure.

If any service department tells you otherwise, they are lying. Go to SEMA's website and search for that law. Download it and shove it up your service managers a@#.

Dealers will often times tell you otherwise because for the most part, they have no clue how an engine runs and just replace parts until they get it right. They also expect you to be ingorant so they can rip you off.

So mod away my friends.

It sounds like a great law!!! I can just imagine my luck, I would end up breaking my rearend somehow, and they would notice the headers I can just imagine the field day a service manager would have explaining how the installation of headers affected the failure of the rearend. As most of us know, as soon as you bring it in with headers on it, they will say its been raced. I suppose all I am saying is, after doing such mods as headers, unfortunately, the counsumer would not have much a leg to stand on.

I've also heard of this law... A buddy of mine is a dealer at a GM dealership and he also has mentioned it....

Next time a dealership acuses you of racing your car...ask them if they have a video of it as proof. While they stand silent with their foot in their mouth...say "Now fix the damn car under warranty." -worked for me.

There always is warranty in effect for the duration of the warranty you have, as long as they prove that the repair wasn't caused by mod. Also, the service writer & tech don't get paid for no repairs, warranty is how techs make a living. If your service writer tells you there's no warranty after you install mods, you're not talking his language!!! Warranty is for everything no matter what!!! Ask his drink!!!

i think the reason it voids the warranty is b/c they take a long time to take off and on, when compared to the stock manifolds. I have never once heard of them hurting an LS1.
