Headers = Too loud ?
I'm planning on getting headers, lid and cutout. Question is: When my cutout is CLOSED with an aftermarket headers and lid, will my my 2000 z28 a4 be loud ? I understand when its open, it will be. What about being closed ? I dont want a loud car although a low deep rumble growl would be pretty cool. Nothing too loud. thanks

Keeping it quiet with headers is not a problem. Just make sure you keep either the stock muffler on or get one of the quieter catbacks like slp dual/dual or hooker.
Also if you have high flow cats they quiet the car down a lot. Your cats (stock or aftermarket) act like two little mufflers. I personally will never lose mine because they allow me to pass emissions, kill the rasp, help keep drone to a minimum and makes the exhaust not smell so bad.
Good Luck

It should not be too loud if you have a catted Y-Pipe. With an ORP, the exhaust gets louder and raspier. I have the Hooker LT's, catted Y-Pipe and a Magnaflow Catback and it sounds sweet. Not too loud and it has a refined tone.

Basically keep the cutout with the stock muffler. If you have a cutout there is no need to mess around with a catback. The stock muffler will keep the headers really quiet. Running the cutout open and LTs, well you wont be able to make it more than five minutes in the car without going crazy.
