header question

when putting headers on a ls1, do they make a ticking noise like a exhaust leak, i put headers on 2 months ago, and i had a ticking sound, had ls1 edit and removed air pump, still had the tick, car started running rich on wot. replace 02 sensors, and put stock maf on, still running rich, the only thing i can figure out now that the ticking is a exhaust leak and it is causing the car run rich, i can hear the tick around 1000rpm-3000rpm, and when i stomp it, it almost goes away, if i'm in 5th gear and floor it at 40mph the ticking is loud, could this be possible and making the car run rich also

Yes, an exhaust leak can cause the car to run a little rich...not so much that you would be noticing a hit in gas mileage. As for the tick, that sounds to be an exhaust leak unless theres something knocking in your engine. Check around the header gaskets for the leak, then check the EGR, AIR fittings and Y pipe.

It might be the check valves fluttering. Check out this link http://www.ls1camaro.net/sections.ph...ticle&artid=11

why do they say to drill holes in the center of the block off plate? Every other write up I have seen says to totally block it off.

If you don't get all of your header bolts tight they will start to leak. Also, after a couple heat cycles on your motor you should re-tighten your header bolts.

Mine started to leak about a week after the install. A week later I replaced the cheep header gasket that came with my headers with new GM exhaust manifold gaskets. The cheep ones that came with my headers were burned thru in two differant places.

Good luck,

Al
