head/cam/stall..need opinions on future setup

hey guys, whats up. im looking into doing a heads and cam setup for a daily driver street. i would like to atleast put down 415-420rhwp. im gonna do all bolt ons, lid, headers, ory, catback, pulley, tb. im also looking at 3.73 with a vig. 3200 stall. heres the problem. i dont know which route i should go for heads and cam. im more than likely gonna run mti stuff. its either mti 2e/x1 cam or their 2e/g1 cam. the x1 is something like 230/227 and the g1 is 228/232. i also planned on spraying 100 dry shot. i would like as much help as possible so that way i dont regret anything. i thought bout settling with the 224/581/114 but i want something a little bigger. im not trying to rip 10's. just want a potent head and cam setup with a nice 100 shot to top it off. thanks

First off, I would get a custom stall. You can get them cheaper than a Yank or Vigilante and built just as strong. As for the cam, I would think the 228/232 would be better for you if you're going to spray. Not because of the bigger numbers, but because of the reverse split (second number is greater than the first). Your exhaust becomes the restriction and would benefit from more duration. Also, if you're going with nitrous, I would recommend the ZEX wet kit. It has a bunch of fail-safes built into it and you're not relying on the PCM to provide the fueling. Of course, you're going to have to install cooler plugs (NGK TR6's) and have the timing adjusted for nitrous when you get it tuned. Do it right (don't forget suspension) and you very well could see some high 10-second passes.

i talked to thunder racing and they told me just to do all bolt ons and just go with afr 205 with their 224 cam and a vig. 2800 stall since its only gonna be for a street car and no track. they said that bigger isnt always better and its not worth the 10 hp to sacrifice drivability. what do you think? my plan was 415-420 and they said its pretty hard to do that cuz that would relate to almost a 450rhwp m6. but they said that it would be just about 400rhwp.

they said that the m6 would make 30-35hp more than your A4....um...ok

i can see maybe 15...but 30!!!!

they are right about the drivability thing. but i would think you'd come close to your goal with the cam you mentioned and stg 2 heads.

call MTI see what they say.

If you want to know how to get there you can copy from my sig. below. On Eagle F1s with a 2800 stall I turned 12.3 launching at about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle so I didn't spin to much off the line.

My car is also pretty heavy because of all the audio/video equipment. So, depending on your weight you could see 11's with this same setup launching at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle.

Good Luck.

Bill

so should i just stick to a set of afr 205 with a 224/224 cam? i would like alot of input so that i can make sure i dont have any regrets. what do you think of bumpin up that 224/224 with maybe 226/226 or even 228/228? and its all street. so you think i should just stay with a 2800 stall over a 3200 stall?

Mine has a 4000 stall in it, and doesn't have any drivability issues at all. Mine never sees above 2500 rpm unless I want it to. I don't think you'd be happy with a 2800 stall

Re: head/cam/stall..need opinions on future setup

save some money and get some well ported 5.3L heads, and something like the FM11 cam from futral will make it a screamer.

FM1-F11-114 FMS Custom Grind Camshaft - 228"/230" .576"/.595" 114LSA - aggressive profile with a 2200-6600 RPM range, fair idle

nice useable powerband, and the higher lobe seperation will keep the idle better, noticable but not overpowering

check out victory racing engines, they have a set of "ET Performance 5.7L Heads" for $1300 which flow over 300 on the intake.

i think you'd make over 400rwhp with that setup and proper supporting mods and a tune

Fuddle is the name of the company. If you send John there a e-mail he will hook you up with a converter that matches your mods. Prices are also VERY reasonable.

so how would stage 2 ls1 heads with a 224/581/112 or 114 with a vig. 3200 stall with 3.73 be on the street. do you guys think i would have a nice potent auto. i would obviously have all supporting bolt ons.

I am not really up on the LS1 mods to be honest with you, but I will say that you will probably want a larger converter than a 3200. I do know that ALOT of LS1 guys run larger than that with just bolt ons let alone H/C swaps. i do think your combo would be pretty damn stout.

Re: head/cam/stall..need opinions on future setup

thanks 8935 formula. thats all i wanted to know. i know a bigger stall would be nice but i would like the 3200. seems like the perfect size stall with the 224. i definitely believe i would push over 400rhwp. im curious how this setup would be vs. a 03-04 cobra with the smaller pulley and exhaust.
