My advise, look at the whole package instead of everything seperately. Your head, cam, converter and gear choice should be based off one another.

Also quit looking at peak HP. You want power under the curve unless you're just building this car up for bragging rights. We're not ricers so why go for peak numbers? A TC is going to hurt your peak numbers but will do more for you than any other single mod.

For cam choice, I'd advise studying up on it and looking at the tight LSA custom grinds people are starting to run.
Educating yourself about it all before your purchase is your best bet. No one except you knows which will make you happier. The T-rex will have poor street manners and not do much for you until 4500 RPM. Do you want that?

It's hard to say what the limit is as MANY factors influence this valve diameter, duration, ICL, LSA, etc. If you're close, it's best to real-world test it. If the heads are coming off anyway (the swap to AFR) then you could test clearance then, but I know I wouldn't want to run TRex lobes with close, close PTV tolerances on my daily driver.

Re: head and cam setup

how bout i tell you what my setup would look like.

mti lid/ filter
jet-hots/ or kooks lt's/ory
hooker catback
pulley
3200 stall
3.73 gears ( unsure still)
bbk 80mm tb or fast lsx setup 90/90

dry shot 100 nos

thats my setup might look like. so im wondering if its all street which route should i go. mti 2e x1, g1 or g5x1 and afr? the mti route might be more cheaper. the lg motorsports setup would be expensive. give me some feedback. im looking at 415 rhwp atleast? no track. just all street. wanna be able to run with the best of em'

Re: head and cam setup

I was under the impression that duration is a far bigger factor in P/V clearance than is lift. The "Tony Mamo" cam is 224/228/.581/.588/114. It has no problems whatsoever with clearance. Most lift comes near BDC. However, given enough duration, the valve may not close before the piston completes its journey up the cylinder.

My suggestion would be to call Tony Mamo at AFR. He is a really easy guy to talk with and will help you achieve your goals -- i.e., 400+ RWHP and good street manners.

F-14 or F-15 and a set of Advanced Induction ported LS1s or LS6s = 470+ rwhp.

Re: head and cam setup

Like said above, if going with AFR 205 heads and want a 224 cam, get the AFR recommended 224/228 .581 .588 114LSA camshaft. Depending how far your pistons are above the deck, you'll want to mill them down to 64cc (.012 off) and use a .040 Cometic head gasket to get a quench and CR to match this cam.
