H/C combo

Well, if my car does need a head gasket replaced you all know the saying "build it bigger, badder, stronger" so now i have decided that if my motor isnt too bad and all it needs is a redone top end, then i am not going to risk putting on damaged heads. I was thinking the stage one combo from rapid motor sports.
http://www.rapidmotorsports.com/mode...=1&intYearId=3

It seems like a good deal. 2k includes ported heads plus cam of my choice. Ad says with the cam they specify 22/224/112 cam i should put down 400-420 rwhp, Now, is this cam small enough to be run under emissions? Or will i fail. Granted i am going to need LT's but half of the friggen muhameds around here that run the gas stations dont know the difference between a tire iron and a dip stick. So i wont have to worry about the cat location even if it is 2"s off.

Re: H/C combo

real world i think 420hp is pushing it...and if you were able to get those numbers it probably wouldn't pass emissions. you may have to tune it down a bit to pass. hard to say.

price sounds good though

I thought the TREX cam was simular? and that it was concidered emissions legal? 224/224/112lsa sounds like it could do it. What is the ls6 cam compared to it? If i am gunna put a cam in it had better make at least 400.

420 rwhp with stage 1 cnc heads. Could be done, would be easier with stage 2 heads. the 224/224 cam would be good for ~390rwhp without heads, so I don't think hoping for 400-420rwhp is too much. A good computer tune would help you get there also.

Realistically, no aftermarket piece of equipment is emissions legal. the T-REX cam is a HUGE cam, and usually needs special attention to clearances and other detail. The 224/224 cam is pretty mild, with the 114 lsa you could probably pass emissions, just keep your catalytic converters.

Yes i am def going to keep the cats. Gotta in this state. does the ls6 cam have 114 lsa? or 112? either way it could pass i would think. And what the smoggers dont know wont hurt them. In actuality yes there are several aftermarket parts that are Emissions legal such as lid, intake, maf catback etc. The only tricky stuff is internal modification such as cam, headers that relocate the cats, but ported cylinder heads i would think would be legal since its the stock heads just built better.

Re: H/C combo

yeah the Trex is monsterous and FAR from emissions legal.

Trex: 242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa

the ls6 camshaft i think is 117 or something like that....

Re: H/C combo

yeah, our factory cams are closer to 116-117 lsa, and are technically classified as low emissions vehicles, which sucks because that makes it tough to mod the hell out of them and be legal about it-- they should classify them as standard emissions and we'd have an easier time. Anyway, the lower the lsa, the worse your emissions, rule of thumb.

Thanks i didnt know that. So since the ls6 cam is 117 lsa and the rapid motorsports cam is 112 lsa i would guess that it wont pass since the trex cam is 110 lsa.

Its just thats a really good combo for cheap..and if i cant pass my emissions then its not worth getting. All those peanut cams, ls6, ls1hotcam, give you about 20-30hp same as friggen roller rockers.

What do you guys think legal or not?

Re: H/C combo

Plenty of people have gotten through emissions with the 224 variants. I wouldn't aim for 420ish rwhp without all the supporting mods and a great tune. 410ish most likely, which is still awesome in a daily-drivable car.

Re: H/C combo

keeping your catalytic converters is going to make passing emissions way easier. I pass emissions with no problems, just swap my race pipes for cats and it's way under the standards.
