starting from scratch (again). this time around i want to do things the right way. my question to you all is this; if i put gutted out cats on, will the live sensors trim out the fuel output or give me a ses? just dont know if i need o2 sims in addition to the hollowed cats.

 

Gutted cats won't effect you're fuel curve. They will throw an SES light because the rear 02 sensors will know the cats aren't working. You can either get 02 sims or find someone to delete the rear 02's from the PCM.

 

is gutting your cats just as good as getting actuall straight pipes put on and is it easy to do?

 

I just ordered an MAC off road Ypipe for my car from http://fasttoys.net/

They make a Ypipe thats a direct replacement but donsent have the converters and all around better. Thats the one i ordered part #43098. Its commom since, you can gut your cats but those heavy hunks of tin are still there and its not as smooth flow as a str8 pipe would be and the stock Ypipe, one arm is like mashed down and its very obviously restrictive where this MAC Ypipe wont be like that. All that will happen w/o those sensors is a check engine light, wont hurt anything else. However i found some used 02 simms here local for dirt cheap im going to use until i get tuned.

 

ive been told the straight pipes will have less resistance. im only leaving mine on in case i get some jacka$$ who wont pass me on the visual inspection, i know it will fail emissions but have a way around that.

 

Then again, in south carolina we do not have emmissions tests or anything like that, so i can use all that good off road stuff.

 

I thought in Pa its only diagnostic obd2 check. I didn't think they were even doing the visuals unless it was 95 older. Anyways i thought about doing the gutted cats, but after doing that on my 95 i hated the sound it made of the hollowed out chambers. I too am gonna do the mac or bassani offroad y-pipe. Thunderracing has the bassani bolt on y-pipe for stock manifolds for a little over 200. Then just do the sims, should be easy enough to change back when inspection time arrives.

 

sounds like a plan. does the front o2 sensor banks get screwed up in any of this?

 

After i order my MAC off road Y for $214 shipped from fast toys, i saw LS1speed is selling them for $185 with free shipped. Thats a very good deal. To bad i already ordered mine, i reccommend yall jump on that.

 

Umm...when I lived in PA a couple years ago, I had to pass the sniffer every year during inspection. So, I'd check on that before you went and made any changes....unless you want to change out the cats every year.

 

Removing the cats and rear O2 sensors has no effect on the front O2s that the computer uses to keep the car in tune.

 

have a pipe put in the cats so you can have cats sitting there but the flow of a solid pipe! O2 simms are gods gift to the SES light

 

thanx al for the info, yes sspd, i do have to change it every year, but i have some $$$ connections in philly, neat idea red, did you do that? if so what size pipe fits in the cat?

 

i personally didn't do it but know some street racers who have so they look stock. there manifolds are HOGGEED OUT and port matched with the head (ported head)

i can ask around and see if you wanna do that
