gmmg catback equivalent?>
gmmg catback equivalent?>
From the amount of research I have done, I think I like the sound of the gmmg catback exhaust the best, but I don't want to drop 7 bills right now in a cat-back. Can anyone recomend a catback that is close to the gmmg in sound for less $$... /me wishes i had more $
hrmmmm I dont see anything on their site for camaro cat-back systems..
anyway, the exhaust I'm looking for does not have to be chambered, just has to sound good.. I think the loudmouth is TOO loud for my liking, and I was also considering the dynomax... I like the idle sound, but other then that I think it's too quiet..... wish I didn't have to base my judgements on mp3's...
I want a setup that is throaty, that you can hear inside (not to the point where I cant hear the music), can be relitivly quiet if you are off the gas, and can be heard well if accelerating....
anyone have any input on the SLP catback system?? (not the loudmouth) or the hooker catback?

Be sure to use these mufflers in pairs... either in a mild dual setup or as a custom GMMG cat-back. They are not very good flowing for stand alone use. They max out in size at 2.5". Most performance exhausts run 3"... The stock system in our cars is a very close 2.75", but you would want to be very thoughtful if using something smaller than stock.
Good luck
Dave
Btw: A member on LS1.com had a custom GMMG made using the Thunder mufflers for around 3 bills. A little high for pinch bent pipe and 2.5" mufflers, but it beats $700 for the real thing.
Good luck
Dave

Btw: Mine was $140 with professional installation.
Ratio411 how violent is the dynomouth setup you plug on this forum? is it as lound as the SLP loudmouth, a little softer or what? how do you find the interior noise to be? and why do you plug this so frequently???
what would be the sound variance between the dynomouth setup and the dynomax catback in terms of sound....

Fair enough...
I do go to bat for this exhaust mod alot. I have this thing about exhaust manufacturers leading folks to believe that we need to spend big bux for a cat-back system to make power. I just feel compelled to let folks know that there is a super cheap way to get great flow from their exhaust on top of a great sound. Btw, the factory system is mandrel bent stainless tubing... Why waste good pipes?
It's funny how you go into a thread on exhaust and everyone is saying how great their $700 system sounds and performs, well I have been on the dyno with cars that have my mods except the difference in exhaust and I can say I've done the same thing or better power and sound wise for much less money.
I'm making this too complicated. I guess what I want to say is I want the world to know you don't have to spend an arm and a leg like some would have you believe. The choice is your's though, all I can do is go into all the exhaust threads like everyone else and tell about my exhaust like they do.
Okay, the sound is mellow at idle, very deep toned. It stays much this way if you are light on the throttle, muscular, but not very loud. You can be discreet if you need to be. At about 3k rpms the exhaust picks up volume and really starts to growl. Volume grows from there as does the intimidation factor. At wide open throttle, the best thing I can think of is Nascar, but having been front row at Charlotte I know that is an exaggeration
. The interior sound is nice, it is a very deep exhaust so it can resonate inside the car (drone), but it is very little compared to some other systems like the LM. Any system that has a nice bark to it is going to have interior resonance on our cars IMO. GM went light on sound insulation for weight and cost savings. It is the nature of our cars. That being said, I will repeat it is not bad, conversation and music are not compromised. Rasp is nill. Decelleration is awesome, the system gurgles and growls something beautiful. It can pop on decell sometimes... kinda common to our cars regardless, can be controlled by holding very light pressure on the throttle while decellerating in gear.
That's it, a fairly detailed description.
Go over to LS1.com and ask for Dynomouth owners there, they should give you the same comments. I post over there much more, and for much longer than here... if you look at the things that I push and the mods that I do and create, they are all like this... self sufficient, cheap/free, and put out to help the guys that have better things to do with, say $700, than drop it on a fancy set of tips for their car. I don't profit in any way from my ideas.
Go with what you like, in the end that is all that matters.
Good luck

It is a 4 at idle, 6 when driving normal, and 8 when flogging it. That sounds reasonable...

It is very easy to stay unnoticed with this system if you want to, or to turn heads/intimidate with a drop of the foot.
If I had to compare it to another system, I would say it is a very deep and refined Loudmouth. GMMG is very close in sound.
Dave
I have the loud mouth and I don't know your taste but I would say get the Loud Mouth you will be happy I guarentie that. Its not that loud when cruising but when you get on it. It sounds like a 69 GTO judge giving little backfires when you really get on it. So all I can say is get Loud Mouth. what ever your choice let me know what you think.
Not sure of any others close to GMMG, but go to the
