Gears/brakes in my 01 A4

Anyone know what gears are in my 01 SS A4? What the top speeds are for each gear at what RPM? Whats a good replacement ratio for my strictly street (maybe) car; I love the pull at like 80-100 it has now-leave it alone and get a 3500 stall? I thought maybe 3.42s would be good all around and to still keep the top end pull.

Also what are good aftermarket brake pads to use? I hear a lot of people talk about Hawk pads and they're only like 140 for all 4. Any better that are still reasonable?

Check the RPO code. I'm pretty sure all A4 SS's came with 3.23's (RPO code GU5), but I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong.

Not sure about the top speeds. Do some searches here and on other boards and I'm sure you'll find them from somewhere.

My 95 Z28 had 3.23's and I liked them a lot. Good balance between power and gas mileage on a daily driver.

Whether you should get different gears is all up to you and what you like. People use anything from 2.73's to 4.xx's on their daily drivers, so it's pretty much a matter of taste.

I would definetely like to have 3.23's. I now have 2.73's and they are not too bad, either. Not sure whether going from 3.23's to 3.42's would be that much beneficial for you, but who knows...

Good luck!

Oh yeah... The brake pads...

I have always used the Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads from AutoZone and been very happy with them. No problems whatsoever in daily driving.

They do produce some dust, but since I wash my car at least once a week, it is not a problem for me.

And can't beat the lifetime warranty, either.

3500 stall with the 3.23 is a very potent combo.

I'm running a 3800 stall with 3.42s and it's wicked but I'm sure that I gave up a little gas mileage. But if I wanted mileage I sure wouldn't have modded my car.
