Which gears?

I was wondering if there was an easy way to see what gears I have? I know it's either the 2.78 or 3.23 since I have an A4? I did do a search on this and found some info on looking for gu2 on the drivers door but that must be a z28 trick only because there is no GU anything on my formulas door.

Anyone know how too check the gears on a A4 pontiac? I want to get a vig3200 TC and if I have 3.23 then I'll probably stay with those but if I have 2.78 I'll consider upgrading.

is the LS1 equipped cars distinguishable by whether or not you can select 1st gear?

i know in the LT1 cars, if you can't select 1st you have the 2.73 gears.
if you CAN select 1st you have the performance 3.23 option...

not sure how that relates to the LS1's though...

you could always jack it up and count the axle/tire rotation

There is no rpo code on my door. It just does not exist on my car so is there another way to check?

3.23's have the alum driveshaft, 2.73's the steel. You can also go to www.f-body.org/gears/ and check your RPM/MPH.

I checked the glove box and there was nothing there either

Thanks for the replies. I'll just assume I have 2.78 since 3.23 was an option for these cars.

It will definitely be on your driver's door unless the previous owner ripped it off.

The sticker at the very top of the inside of your door and says: SERVICE PARTS IDENTIFICATION DO NOT REMOVE

It should have quite a few codes on there. Seeing how you have an A4, look for GU2 or GU5.

GU2 - 2.73
GU5 - 3.23

Last resort, jack your car up or put it on ramps so you can get under it. Look at the driveshaft and flick it with your finger, if it makes a tink and it's silver, you've got 3.23 gears, if it's black and feel like it's steel, you've got 2.73 gears.
