gas mileage
gas mileage
i just baught a 02 trans am with a six speed and t-tops back in july. Ever since i bought the car, i have been getting no more than 230 miles per tank. This is with the ac off and driving "conservatively." I didn't expect to get 30 mpg but this seems a little low.
That's about what I've been averaging with my car so far. I don't know if the mileage will ever get "better", since I've got almost 6000 miles on my car now?! On a couple of long road trips (all highway driving, and I kept my foot out of it!!
) I've seen closer to 300 miles to a tank, but that's only happened a couple times. Typically, I get anywhere from 200-250 miles per tank (that's normal, everyday, city/highway driving). Also, I've got 2.73's, which should make the car a little better on gas.
Really though, when your car puts ~300HP to the rear wheels, you can't expect "great" gas mileage!!

When you state you get x miles per tank, you leave off one of 2 critical pieces of information. (Have one can infer the other). The two pieces are number of gallons to fill up the tank. 2nd is where on the gauge are you filling up.
I get 300+ per tank. But I am running till the Check Gauges light comes on. At that time I know there is approximately 3.4 gallons left in the tank. (16.8 gallons in 2002 model tank, 13.4 to fill up). I usually fill up with about 14.3 gallons. So 22+ mpg on a daily basis. (Bought in Feb, now have 16000 miles on it).
If I filled up at 1/4 I would only get around 250 miles per tank. I like at least 300 per fill up tho.
(But aren't these cars fun!

Do you people post this stuff to make me feel better about my car??!?!
heheh
I did a recent post showing my MPG... On road trips, 27mpg and I know it will do 30 soon. Average daily is about 18-20 but that is all in town short trip.. I use 6th gear all the time and keep my rpms less than 2K often. I use Exxon 93 octane gasoline. When doing my computations, I get the MPG, Gallons Left In Tank, Cost per gallon, The total price of the gas, and the total gallons I used to fill up.
Here is my post on this matter.. http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...threadid=23929

Whats all this per tank talk? Why dont you just figure out the mpg your getting that way you can be more precise. I get anywhere from 16.8 to 18.5 while driving city just depends on how many times I really gas it. Ive never drove highway so I dont know what it would get then. Another thing, it seems like I get better gas mileage when I keep the tank full and never let it drop bellow 1/2 tank.

Pure highway driving I can get about 320-340 miles on a tank of gas, and my 98 has the smaller fuel tank. The 2.73's help, but keeping your foot out of it and using the cruise control help a lot.

Holy s**t! I thought my getting 240-250 to the tank was good with strictly highway driving. I have a 99 Z with no mods...shouldn't I be getting better gas mileage???
I get 13-14 around town driving mostly normal, on it alot and it drops down to 12 or so , if I shift around 1500 RPM I've seen it as high as 16 (all city driving) , freeway/ interstate using 6th gear it gets around 26-27MPG. I'm between 230-245 miles on fill ups when the check gauges light comes on and it usually takes 14-15 gallons.
MPG
I have seen 27.5 mpg out of my 2002 Z28 M6 on a road trip. I average about 17-18 mpg around town (driving to work in Columbus, OH "rush hour" traffic)....I just drove back from Lowes Motor Speedway 2 weeks ago and got 25.3 mpg for the whole trip (504 miles in 6 hrs and 4 minutes....and no tickets) and we made pretty good time. Happy Cruising!!!
I don't know who said city driving is worse for mileage, but I don't believe him. On the highway, I average about 1/4 tank per hour. That's right, I can only drive 4 hours before refueling. In the city, a full tank is likely to last me a week.
