Funtional ram air?

I think I know the answer to this, but I thought I would run it by some of you for reinforcement. I have a 99 TA . I have a fast toys ram air installed and lid which I like alot performance wise. I was thinking about buying an aftermarket ram air hood for my car because they look awesome. But to my knowledge if you have a FTRA, or lid you are supposed to block off the factory ram air anyway. So my question is: If you run a FTRA your hood scoop becomes nothing but a non functioning show piece? I am wrestling with this because I could put the money toward other mods I like the look alot but for $1000 I could do alot of other things. Someone back me up please.

I could be wrong, but here's my 2 cents.

I think the Firebirds are the only F-Bodies with a functional hood, no matter which model you get. The intake for these cars is like right where the bottom center of the hood is. There is no way the SS's hood get the air into that intake because the scoop is high up on the hood. The Firebirds have those 2 nostrils right where the intake is, and the Ram Airs do too, so I would assume that that makes the Firebird's hood setup more functional than the Camaro's.

The SS's actually have a "ram horns" type induction. If you look at the underside of a 98-02 SS hood, you'll see where the scoop is and then where it splits into the "ram horns" and then into an opening in the bottom-front of the hood which goes into this *little* opening on the airbox. Hardly useful, but it's there.
