FRONT BRAKE ?s

BRAKES... just wondering what most of you have been using?

Any opinions on Power slot rotors and hawk pads?

How many people have upgraded to vette front brakes...rotors and calipers? what was the cost?

I am not looking to spend 1000.00 bucks or more at all!
just wanna improve on already good front brake system.
I have 60K on my factory brakes... it is almost time.

and, I do autocross my car.

thanks for the help and opinions.

hallo! ive been looking at thunderRacing's complete LS1 braking kit here

it comes complete with powerslotted rotters for all four corners and a complete set of hawk break pads. i think we have the same dual piston calipers as vettes just their rotors may be a bit larger.. anyhow its not so much the rotors and pads that cost the big $$ but the calipers i believe.. most worthy rotors in the 12" range cost between $120-175ish/peice i think.. anyways my rotors are warped and my pads are glazzed and i consider that package a really good deal with some good name brand parts. and as for my calipers i think i might just have them rebuilt and paint them.. it really depends on $$ for me.

hope that help.

ps. that package is $590.00

/tek.

Well, for what it's worth, here's what I run on my '01 WS6.

I run the AutoZone rotors ... $35 / each For pads, I run the Raybestos Ceramic pads w/ lifetime replacement ... $150 for the set.

That combo is quiet and dustless, plus good stopping power using the stock brake components.

The front brakes are good enough for the camaro...run ceramic rncotton said, you will find good deals at like Napa, AutoZone or PepBoys. They have almost no break dust. However if you have the money to dish out on bigger breaks than do what tekker said..........I wanna get bigger brakes soon....I'm just not sure I wanna keep my car...I'm about at 100,000 miles and I am changing the brakes every 45,000 to 50,000 miles....stock.

Flush out your brake fluid with some silicon brake fluid with a higher boiling point than the standard Dot 3 fluid. That will help pedal fade if you get your brakes real hot in motorcross. Just some EBC Green Stuff pads or Hawk pads will do fine on stock rotors IMO, unless you are really smoking the brakes with above mods. Then you will have to go to the Vette brakes or maybe some air ducks to the brakes for cooling. Check the auto-cross section for more info. Later>>>>>>>>>>>

What class do you autocross in? That will determine what you can do. You can convert to C5 brakes for under a grand, but they don't offer much over LS1 F-body brakes for street/autox. I use stock pads for street and autox, and while it is possible to overheat them, if it is happening on the street I question your street manors. If it happening at autox, I would suggest a dedicated set of AutoZone rotors with Carbotech Panther pads for events, and another set of AZ rotors and OEM pads for street use.

So are you saying that a C5 upgrade w/ good pads and there calipers are not worth it over our LS1 brakes?

well, i'm pretty sure both the c5 caliper and the ls1 brakes are dual piston. c5 rotors are larger, that's their advantage. (as far as i know)

so, with good rotors (doesn't have to be slotted or crossdrilled to be good), high performance pads, SS brake lines, and a really good brake fluid on an ls1 brake setup.....you've got yourself brakes that will stop you for just about any situation (within reason).

the c5 brake setup just ups the bar a bit considering the larger diameter rotor.......i wanna say there's something about the c5 brake setup that dissipates heat a little better, but i'm unsure.

someone chime in to help me or tell me i'm full of s***....

so far good responses..... I think i am leaning towards more of a stock upgrade setup. I have never had any problems with my brakes at all. just looking to get a little power STOP out of them...

even when I autocross...never a problem with fade or locking. But I do like the look of the C5 setup. and if the price was not to bad it would be killer.

Of course if money was no big deal... I would do a setup like my friend has.

Sounds crazy but he has porsche super cup brakes on the front...4 piston...cross drilled and slotted.

I would show you a picture but i do not know how to get photos from my desk top to the IMG
