Ford 9" or Moser 12 Bolt??

What one is better? I'm looking for some solid performance. I want to put 4.10s in it and run some slicks at the track. I have a 100 shop of NOS right now and going to do some engein work soon.
I have heard that the for 9" is easier to install. Is this true?

The Ford is by far a better rear. It will hold more horsepower than the 12 bolt. Price is really the same, so I will be going with the 9" too!

OK, in order to determine which is better you MUST define better.

the 9 does handle more power. this doesnt magicaly make it better

here is a quick rundown of both

9 inch
stronger
heavier
less efficient
every gear ratio in you can think of available
generaly noisier
MUCH easier to change gears in.
can be had with ABS/ traction control, but not with ABS only cars.
no C clip eliminators needed

12 bolt
strong but not as strong as the 9
slightly lighter
more efficient
usualy quieter
serious PITA to change gears in
can be had with ABS or ABS/ traction control.
C clip eliminators needed, some tend to leak when exposed to high lateral loads (hard cornering)

I chise the 9 inch for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the ease of gear changes. that doenst make it better than the 12 bolt. YOu have to decide what is important to you.

I have no clue about the 12 bolt, but I was able to install my 9 inch in the car completely by myself. The 12 bolt might be harder because I put the housing of the 9" in without the center section, this accounts for a lot of weight, and you cant do that with the 12 bolt. you could remove the carrier and even teh pinion, but then you run into the PITA that is known as gear install on a 12 bolt.

either will be plenty strong provided they are set up correctly

a 12 bolt can be set up with the bearings on the axle's ala 9" style so no C-clip eliminator is needed to keep the axles in.

for roadracing, a 9" has a few more posi options since its more popular..

it also depends on what spline axles you get as well. moser offers splines well into the 40's...

Ok, by better, I mean stronger. Much stronger. I have a buddy who built Mustangs using nothing but 9" and he is quite confident when he says they are stronger.
