Flywheel vs. Rearwheel?

What is the percetage loss of HP on a M6 LS1? Or is there just a general rule to go by say 15% on a manual and 20% on a auto ( example ). Just curious here.

I believe injuneer dynod his motor then chasis and saw less than 15% drop with the M6.

I don't think it is a percentage, but rather about 50-55 hp is lost thru the drivetrain.

true however, I'm pretty sure injuneer has a 12 bolt to, a little more loss then with a stock 10 bolt.

Re: Flywheel vs. Rearwheel?

i dont think their is an exact scientific formula for it. percentage or amount can only be accurate obviously if you had both done, otherwise the window of error goes on how much wear is on the car. m6's they say the window is 12-15% vs 18-20% on a a4 but i am loosing approx. 22% with stock tc, and tranny

A stock camaro corvette ls1 car will loose 40-45hp through the accesorys and the driveline.

The Camaro is a little more efficient in getting power to the ground, the 'vette loses a little more.

Re: Flywheel vs. Rearwheel?

why is that so, for the vette to lose more?

Re: Flywheel vs. Rearwheel?

Not sure to be honest, but i think it's just drivetrain losses. There's an article posted somewhere that shows the dyno tests on an LS1 Camaro and an LS1 'Vette. The point was to show they have the same exact engines and produce the same power despite the 'Vette's advertised 345hp vs the Camaro's advertised 305hp. It also showed that the Camaro puts a bit more down to the ground.

It's probably due to the corvette's independant rear suspension = more moving parts eating up HP.

That plus the Vettes have a transaxle.

Re: Flywheel vs. Rearwheel?

About 15% sounds about right. I pulled 298 @ the wheels and the engine is more or less rated to 345HP.

Drivetrain loss is all about percentage rather than a fixed number.

Re: Flywheel vs. Rearwheel?

I dont see why it would be a percentage. Accessories are a spicific amount of friction and should not be a percentage, now, losses due to gear leveraging may be a percentage but that would be a small percentage of the loss.
I would imagine 1000hp cars are not losing 150-200 hp. probibly more like 60-80
