Stay away from the "chokemaster", my friend lost a dyno proven 9hp on an LT1 car with a flowmaster cat-back.

I've heard nothing but good stuff about the Magnaflow cat-back (around $300)and the Hooker is a good cheapie ($250ish) as well.

I see nothing wrong with the Flowmaster. IMO, it sounds great. It's got a nice, deep, quality sound that is very pleasant, but not too loud. I've never heard a Loudmouth exhaust in person, but from what I've heard people say, they can be pretty loud and annoying sometimes (key word, LOUD). Now I HAVE heard an LS1 with the Borla cat-back, and it sounds okay, but when it revs up to high RPM's, it sounds too raspy.

About the whole "Flowmasters rob you of horsepower" thing, I'd really like to see that dyno comparison, and I'd like to know what it was comparing to. For one thing, my "Seat-of-the-Pants" meter didn't register a power loss, and secondly, comparing to a quiet, 2-3/4" FACTORY exhaust, how can a full 3", louder exhaust flow any worse or take away horsepower?! Sorry, but 'til I'm there on dyno day and watch the Flowmaster perform worse than the factory exhaust, I say .

..............I do not argue with the fact that Flowmasters don't "flow" as well as other AFTERMARKET exhaust systems though.

Point being, get the Flowmaster for the SOUND and the PRICE.

9 hp isn't a lot of difference, and could have been affected by something other than a Flowmaster cat-back. Was that the ONLY thing your buddy changed between dyno runs? Also, was that compared to the stock factory exhaust, or to a different aftermarket exhaust?

Dude, I would get the Flowmaster. The sound is amazing and it turns heads. My friend has a 99' SS with the flows and it turned heads and mine will be installed tommorrow. You get quality deep sound not just loud and annoying, the flows give you the sound that a muscle car should at a great price. You can always do modifications to make up for any hp if any, I think some people bs about all the hp loss. If you are concerned about losing some hp over the quality sound then find another exhaust that can gain hp and sound like a$$. Good luck!!

For the amount you want to spend, why not consider a Cut-Out with a electric switch. I dont know what the best one is this week, but this one supports this website. http://www.dmhperformance.com/

I would look at that for an option, best of both worlds, quiet when it has to be and performance/ sound when you need some attention.

another vote for the magnaflow.

or if you really like the sound of the flowmaster...and it IS a nice sound...just put a cutout on it like suggested.

i don't think you'll like the LM with the long tubes

You honestly think that the TB bypass is worth 6hp?

I had the flowmaster on my car and didnt like it, just not bad assed sounding enuff for me. Its hard to say what exhausts systems hurt and help a cars performance becaus every car reaction is different, sometimes they help up top and hurt down low or even stay the same and not help at all. I swapped from the flowmaster, to Borla, to loudmouth within a month. And i am happiest with the loudmouth sound wise. On nitrous, i ran a best of two tenth difference best with loud mouth over the flowmaster. But i think that had more to do with my "LAUNCH". An exhaust system isnt going to make or break you performance wise, just aim for the sound you want first becaus they are all better then factory.

Loud mouth still sounded good with my headers and off road Y pipe not raspy or anything, but after my head work it became a different story, my car is LOUD at another level. Not a bad sound but loud. Only between 2300-2500RPMs it has sort of a crappy high pitch sound to it under normal acceleration that is annoying, this head work is recent and i also have a minir exhaust leak that i thinks doing most of that sound. But this was only after i put some better flowing heads on with of course an exhaust port so of course its goign to be alot louder. if you know your not going to ever installe heads or any motor work, then the loud mouth is the way to go for a budget exhaust, ive personialyl never heard hooker or magnaflow but i would rather chance one of those over flowmaster. I just wasnt happy with flowmaster as you can tell.
Also keep in mind flowmaster is a VERY common exhaust among all the ghetto low riders, joe blows, and mud trucks. I wanted to be different from all them.
