flowmaster

Wow I've seen alot of negative posts here about flowmaster, guess my car buddies didn't exactly know what they were talking about when they told me to run flows on any car I might have.

Well I guess it's time to start doing a little better homework huh?

Flowmaster makes great exhaust systems, just not for the LS1.

Flowmaster may be viewed as negative but it sounds great. My friend had an SS and that car would get looks everywhere and it was very deep. For only $300 it is a good deal and if your looking for hp get a cutout.

I just had a flowmaster put on my 2000 and LOVE it. The guy at the shop puts both Flowmaster and Magnaflow on, and suggested the flowmaster with the V/8. I am completely satisified.
All I wanted was the sound, and it is great!!!
H/P, install a cut out!!!

Most LS1 owners lose around 10-20 horsepower with Flowmaster exhausts.

Well, on Hypertech's dyno I laid down 315 with the Flowmaster muffler. The 2nd run I opened the cutout and I laid down 330.

So, unless the cutout alone gave me 15 RWHP, the Flowmaster muffler was robbing HP.

Almost all mufflers will "rob" you of a few ponies. Flowmaster just "robs" a couple more then others.

Flowmasters sound great, but if that extra 5 hp means that much to you, go with another equally great sounding muffler.

A flowmaster will NOT rob you of 10-15 hp unless you've got a 400 hp + set up.

If your worried about the hp on the dyno or need the extra couple horse for the track then look at others. One thing the flowmaster is a 3" system, and our car come stock at 2.75" I think. With the flows you should be better then stock. Flowmasters have always been popular for that great muscle car sound. You just need to figure out what you are looking for in an exhaust system.

I just got the flowmaster 80 series exhaust with the muffler in place of the SLP dual/dual. Its sitting on my basement right now, but from what I've heard its the best sounding out there. Ill also have a qtec to take care of the ponies.

Actually, I've heard that Flowmaster exhausts are great on LT1 f-bodies.

Had a flowmaster set up on my car for a few months....It definitely felt likt it slowed the car down a bit and it wasn't loud enough for me. I definitely solved that problem though.

Sorry, but I've gotta say , and WTF?!

How does an LS1 LOSE 10 - 20 horsepower?! Are you comparing an LS1 with a Flowmaster catback to an LS1 with the factory exhaust, or with another aftermarket exhaust? Show me some dyno PROOF of this, otherwise I say . 2-3/4" pipe upto 3" pipe, and yet you're telling me you lose power???? Uh uh.

Now in your second statement, you say that Flowmasters work great on LT1's......................what's the friggin' difference?!?!?! They're basically identical cars underneath, the only difference is the motor. How does an LS1 lose power with a Flowmaster system, but an LT1 will improve with it??

Please explain, 'cause that makes NO sense at all.

I mean, how do you figure the factory exhaust is so quiet, yet LESS restrictive than a Flowmaster exhaust, which is significantly louder???

I believe 100% that opening the cutout gave you an extra ~15 HP. I think that's to be expected, regardless of what exhaust system you're running..............if you dyno with the cutout closed, then open, you should see a gain..............that's the point of the cutout.
