Is Flow Master worth the CHA CHING ???

I hear that Flow Master sounds great on the 98z but , Is the power gain that much and how much would a cat back cost for my ride ?

power gains are minimal, if any, with the flowmaster. some people on the board claim it actually robs power, but i can't comment on that. mine sounds great, IMO. just get the muffler, forget the catback. i think i paid like $130 installed for the muffler only. sounds great, and i use a cutout when i want to squeeze all the power i can out of the car.

I have a Flowmaster 3" catback on my WS6. Maybe thats why it only runs 14.1's We'll see when I get a cut out.

But the catback sounds REALLY nice

Magnaflow catback

It sound sweet and is $369 through Jeg's. It mandrel bent and stainless steel. Best bang for the buck. It flows between 1000 and 1100cfm. Flowmaster is good for about 600cfm. It also sound better in my opinnion.

I have just a Flow muffler on my stock piping. The car came with it. The thing is very quiet. When I run someone I usually hear their exhaust.

The thing I don't like about it (besides being too quiet) is the loud popping when it is cold between shifts.

As for flow, I ran a 13.56 @ 107 w/a slow take off. I rolled off the line to bypass the lack of traction. That was w/the Flow as my only mod.

There are a lot of quick older cars running Flows, so I'm not too sure about it costing power. No, it won't flow as well as others on a flow bench because it was designed to handle pulsating flow. Like the exhaust actually flows.

I personally like the Magnaflow sound. It isn't hollow and tinny like the Flowmasters. You can get the Magnaflow for $320 @

I don't really care for the tail pipes, but that can be changed.

That being said, IMO going from a 2.75" exhaust to a 3" isn't worth the effort or cash when there are 3.5" and 4" systems. Granted they do cost more.

I vote Flowmaster!! I plan on getting the Flowmaster for my SS in the near future after hearing some sound clips. My friend had Flowmaster on his 99 SS and he got looks all over and it sounded bada$$. If it robs power, then get a cutout if you plan to drag, I am not ever going to drag unless some little civic with a 10" exhaust wants a piece. Listen to sound clips to help your decision because we all have different tastes. I can not wait to replace my slp dual dual w/the Flowmaster!!!

I like the sound on mine, although it flows no better than stock. I'm planning on getting an electric cutout in a few months.

Another vote for magnaflow and ebay, all stainless steel sounds great but not obnoxiously loud. The seller has fast shipping to, its only $285 I think.
