fixing to buy camaro ss with ls6?
fixing to buy camaro ss with ls6?
i came across a 02 SS camaro today that was for sale. It only had 2,100 miles on it and the guy wanted only 11,500 for it !!!!!
so i'm thinking there must be some catch so i start askin about the car and he says its a dale earnhardt edition (had dale earnhardt emblem on back panel) with an LS6, he said it had 405 hp and it ran a 12.5 in the quarter, and he had the time slip to prove it....it came from texas and he said that in texas, if you have a car with over 400hp you have to get some other sticker up under your inspection sticker, and sure enough, it had one.
however, it had a fender bender in the front but it had been fixed by a body shop and it looked like new....
this is a bad *** car with drag radials and borla exhaust so i'm serioulsy thinking about buying it but the price makes me think that there HAS to be some catch. but the guy owns a f-body body shop so i figured he knows a little about our cars.......
the car also didn't have t tops or leather seats, arent most ss's t top and leather? it had ss earnhardt floor mats though
what do you guys think?

Well if it's a good car then hell yes it's a good deal, but almost to good to be true also. You can do a search on the LS6 some good info was on here on how to check for an LS6 block....it's kinda hard to explain to chek the block the easy way("bullseye") other than trying to read the # on the back of the block, I believe the last #'s for the LS6 block were 1168 but it's kinda hard to find, but he may also mean he has the ZO6 LS6 cam. The whole DE thing is prolly BS
From what I have heard, the late '01 and the '02 came with the LS6 block. That doesn't mean it has an LS6. I thought the intemindator was the Dale Earnhardt edition. And that was an LS1 with a few mods. http://www.gmmginc.net/html/intimidator_camaro.html
Well only a small percentage of '01 '02(10-20%) got an actual LS6 block.....just the block not the cam or other real LS6 goodies. And I know they did make a real DE car but this one sounds like BS.......along with the rest of the story
The seller is prolly full of it

If you believe all that I have a 2000 Yenko Camaro I'll sell ya.
It look like a stock one for the sleeper approach.
This is TOTAL BS.
The sticker under the inspection sticker in TX is the same as a tag (liscense plate) sticker. EVERY car in TX has this. You get one EVERY year. They put them there because people were stealing them off the plates.
The Earnhardt Camaros (Intimidator SS) go for $70-80K are numbered and have the GMMG exhaust.

One of the funniest stories I've read in a while.
I have some oceanfront property for sale in West Texas.

400hp car needs another sticker?

Please, do yourself a really huge favor: run, run as fast as you can and don't look back.

That's all I have to say...

TS
well even if the sticker and the DE stuff is totally BS, which i'm sure it is, it is still an SS with a ls6 block, cause i looked for the "bullseye" below the oil cap and it was there, and the dash reads 2,100 miles so either way i can't go wrong for $11,500
and the car makes my lt1 feel like a honda when it comes to performance so i think i've found a hell of a deal... i've looked everywhere and can't find a 02 SS for less than 20 grand

i waiting on a member to do a carfax for me but i went to carfax.com and it came out and said there is 4 facts about the car. however, it said that it is a 01 model Z28.... i'm really confused now... 2100 miles????? ugh.. who knows... but it has EVERYTHING an ss has... even manual....
I've seen Z's w/ everything an SS had. You can buy the stuff and install it. You said the guy does body work. There is your answer. Its obvious hes a con man too. I wouldn't buy a thing from this guy. Cheap or not. Might find some bailing wire holding the rod caps on or something. The milage could be that low because its the electronics from a different car too.
BTW, Z's also came in manual.

the guy told me he got it from an auction in texas, so i dunno.....but i do know it had all the ss stuff on it when he bought it because i saw the car the first day he brought it in town
and when i said manual i meant that it had the SS owner's manual .......
i can't wait for this carfax report to go through
Just call GMMG with the vin #. They will tell you if they built it. It seems like there were only about 20 of these cars built before Dale Earnhart was killed. Production was stopped and only the cars on order were finished. These cars are very rare. Nobody in thier right mind would sell one that cheap unless, 1. They are from another planet. or 2. I guess there is no number 2. Make the call. If it is a clone, the price is still unusually low. BTW, the LS6 block is darker in color because the casting process is different. Both blocks have the circles on the front of the block. However, the LS6 does NOT have the raised dimple in the center of the circle.

thats without a doubt the most BS thing i've ever heard.....i dont live in texas so if by some chance i'm wrong, i apologize, but i can't understand for the life of me why you would need a special sticker to have 400hp.....
also if he owns some kind of f-body shop, the 12.5 timeslip could have come from any car.
the GMMG authorized Intimidator SS was a 380 hp LS1...it was also something like $50,000 i believe...
