Fipk, K&n, Slp, ??
Fipk, K&n, Slp, ??
I'm looking to get a new fipk for my 98 LS1 Z28. The old one is after market with a K&N, but the lid was broken by the person I bought it off of. I like the new K&N without the restrictive air box. Has anyone tried this one? Which one nets the best gains?
Re: Fipk, K&n, Slp, ??
on the Z28 style intake, the best you can get is gonna be the SSRA and any lid that you like.
all lids are the same, other than price and appearence. you'll see and hear "a lid is a lid is a lid" if you read here enough.
the SSRA is a true ram air scoop that draws air from under the nose at slower speeds, acting like a cold air induction. and at higher speeds (say 75mph +) it becomes a ram air.
SSRA + lid = $300
better gains and similar cost to the K&N or Volant.
now on the ram air hood of the WS6, the K&N or Volant are a good choice, but they are designed different than the camaros.

We've gone around and around on this. Nobody can quantify which is difinitivley better the SSRA or the FIPK. Al ran the SSRA and I ran the FIPK and we both ran about the same with essentially the same bolt ons ... I might have been a .5 mph faster .
It comes down to asthetics ... what do you like.

although it is hard to compare from one car to the next. but you are right. there isn't that much of a difference to warrent going crazy about which one makes better power.
but purely from and observational standpoint the SSRA looks like it would work better on non ram air equipped cars than the K&N. but you also have to realize that ram air doesn't even start to come into play untill high speed, at least 75mph plus.
