Fipk?

I want to know what you guys think of the K&N fipk. I have heard good and bad things about it. Mostly the bad being the higher temperatures. I really like the way the fipk looks but I think the ftra would be better because of the the cold air aspect. I have been also looking at the direct flow lid and ftra setup. I have not really heard of anything bad about this. Let me know what u guys think

The higher temps are BS because I have compared IAT with many in my club. People are saying what they think again. Once you are rolling the IAT goes to outside air temp. At idle (like in any car) the IAT will rise. I have seen lower cruising IAT's on FIPK's because the IAT sensor is relocated to the inside of the filter (where an IAT sensor should be) andfurther from that heat soaking plastic and TB.

However, for overall performance I would guess that the z28 hood would benefit more from the large surface area of the filter. If you have the ram air hood camaro or a firebird, just go with the lid. The FIPK works just like any cold air intake, more filter area and better air flow from filter to TB.

I like my FIPK, the car runs great. I think a FTRA, lid, filter, and smooth bellows will give the same result or even a little more. YOu can find the FIPK for less than $300 - the other stuff may cost you a little more.

In back to back tests, myu IAT temps dropped over 20º by swapping the FIPK to a lid. I sold the FIPK and haven't looked back. I don't even have a ram air either.

My IAT temps are almost exactly the same as outside air temp at as little as 10mph. It's just a car to car thing.

Here's my FIPK. It's been customized just a little.

Hey Poltergeist

Your engine bay is sweet . Do you show your car? How do you like your fipk. Notice any difference in power?

I'm going to show the car at Super Chevy this year. See how it does. I was using the bellowed air lid for a few months while the FIPK blue hose was being made so I noticed a difference from that. On the dyno I borrowed a friends FIPK and noticed about a 6hp increase over the 2002 OE lid, that's why I got it. I like the FIPK and so far have not seen a reason to go back to a lid.

So are you saying that you got a 6rwhp gain from the FIPK over a stock lid? Cause my tests show any lid will do that.. over stock.. If that is true, then I would have to say that I dont see any gain in the oval air filter (larger surface area). Please clairify so I can know for sure what you meant..

BTW, your valve cover covers are sweet.. nifty as heck!

The FIPK is an amazing mod. I got mine for 150 off of someone else. After 3K it sounds soooooo deep and mean. It whistles like hell too, i have peeps all the time asking me if i have a turbo in my car.

Generally people see about 7-10 rwhp off a lid and filter. However with the FIPK u can see 20-25 rwhp. It is a much better mod. It may bring in some warm air, but for 25 rwhp it sure doesnt seem to hurt performance, plus it looks and sounds great to. I dont see a reason not to get the FIPK. I did and I love it. I did mine with an FRA mod and a functional ram air SS hood. I felt a huge difference. Believe me you will not be dissapointed at all.

Correct I had the 2002 OE lid. Baiscally the same as an aftermarket lid. 6HP above that.

Thanks, they are the F-Body Concepts Carbon Fiber ones. I bought them from a guy that was selling his T/A. They were scratched up so I had them painted Pewter to match the car. Then applied the decals you see. The decals were made by a sign shop that I have dealt with in the past.

now we are saying different things here...

see, if he in fact were mentioning the SLP OE Lid in his comparison and getting 7 more rwhp, then he is getting 14ish rwhp... Taking your 7 plus the 6 he said above and 1 for the heck of it.. So that is far from 25... To put it in more realistic terms, cause I dont believe stuff just cause, if I were to use the FIPK in my car and return to the dyno yet again and do a test yet again as I have been doing, I would see my car pull... say 310rwhp stock then install the FIPK and then see my car whipping out a 335rwhp? do you, honestly think that is possible? I for one dont on a stock car. If I find one of these locally, i'll run a test on it.. cause that would surely be quite the news everyone would want to hear...

Not to sound arrogant or condesending at all, just stating that I would believe 14rwhp gain over 25... Wouldnt you?
